Default Thinking of buying property in Centerville or Mountain City

I'm looking at setting up a small farm and home in the Centerville area.

I'm concerned that as the economy goes further and further down the tubes, neighbors will need to stick together and work together in order to survive and avoid roving gangs of people bent on theft, looting, and worse.

Is Centerville the type of dependable, low crime community where I can expect that locals and neighbors will work together to protect and defend each other? I keep reading about areas near Centerville/Linden where newcomers are not welcome, and theft, robbery, and general thievery and vandalism, especially against newcomers, is the norm.

I'm also looking at a similar setup near Mountain City, TN.

Which area would you consider most amenable to newcomers and forming a neighborly community for self-reliance and self-preservation?
