You know all the talk is about Floridians moving away because of high home owner's insurance in Florida but being someone who just made a purchase on land (today in fact YES!!!!!) is moving to TN eventually, what are the insurance rates like up there as far as auto and home owners? I keep hearing it's cheaper but haven't heard of any figures as examples. Right now our car insurance $1635 for 3 cars/2 drivers (2007 truck, 1998 pontiac GTP and 1986 Conquest) with clean driving records and our home owner's insurance well was $645 but we just got the dreaded letter of non-renewing come August so i imagine that will double. Anyone out there to offer any comparisons at all?

Our auto insurance dropped like a rock. We were paying about $1,600 for two cars, clean driving records, and that went to something like $700 when we moved. It's not going to be the same, but that will give you a good idea.

In Florida, and now Tennessee, we live off of I-75.

I pay about $.56 per thousand for homeowners insurance in the Nashville general services district. It's from the Harford Co. My house is part brick and part siding; the insurance would be lower if the house was all brick.

I pay less than $600 for car insurance for a late model Honda Accord. If I added a second car, the insurance wouldn't double but I'm not sure what it would be.

That can't be right or i'm calculating wrong. 56 cents for every $1000? A $100,000 home would be only $56.00?

Default insurance

We too just bought land in Tennessee. Prior to doing so, I phoned a state farm agent near Nashville and asked for an exact quote as to what we have here in MF. It was exactly 44% less than we have in Southeast MF.

Oops, I put the decimal point in the wrong place. It should have been $5.60 per thousand.

A $100,000 home would be about $560 based on my rates.

Thumbs up Prior posts, compare yr vs 6 months.

D.F. Congrats on being new neighbor. A,Cat has pretty close info, but prior posts helping out of staters with good lower rate news is as follows here in S.E. part of TENN.
TRAVELERS had the best value, there are some Farm bureau or farm co-ops, but real estate agency even did the combo package via phone, what a bargain. HOME quote for entire YEAR on $125k new construction package is $335 / year.
CAR quote for TWO SUV,(One New) per SIX months is about $350 total / Six months 2 drivers, thus $ 700 / full year. Two vehicles. Had prior Progressive for many years, no claims , and opposite of their tv ads, very VERY much higher.?? Strange.

Thanks for all the info. You know we seem to have to change our auto insurance every 3 or 4 years. Our rates go up a bit more each year but our cars go down in value and age. We asked about this with our last company and they said they base their rates according to our zip code not our driving history. Now what does my neighbors bad driving have to do with my safety with driving. That was when we had Progressive. Now we're with Liberty Mutual and they seem to have given us the best deal for now anyways. It's been 2 years now with no increase in rate so we'll see what next year holds for us.

I wonder if it's more expensive for home insurance in the west seeing as that's where most of the tornados occur??

How does where I live affect my auto premium?

Where you live/keep your car impacts your chances of having an accident, or being a victim of theft or vandalism.

According to an insurance website, other factors affecting regional insurance rate differences include time and efficiency of police response, law enforcement (presumably this means preventative), local road and traffic conditions and the quality of local medical services. They also consider the litigation rates in a given area, that is, how many lawsuits are filed, go to trial, are settled out of court and for how much.
