Default Vehicle Registration

From my understanding and from what I have read and heard all new vehicles less than a year old entering Tennessee is subject to the current Tennessee Sales Tax on that vehicle for registration. The cost of the vehicle in the State of Tennessee assessed at current rate.Other words a $10,000 vehicle times the 8.5% sales tax is what you would pay the first time registration. For vehicles older than a year old it would not imply. For those that have a new vehicle less than a year old where you charged this fee when you moved and registered your vehicle in Tennessee? Or is this a urban legend......

Default Prior 90 days .?

T.M. : You have a good question here . Sometimes these New money rules are not well publicized ? We are all involved with this guns in bars upgrade.!
. The last go around on this topic I heard many states had a 90 day new purchase jurisdiction.? Does not seem fair if bumped up to 12 month fee.
. Did Mississippi have a low sales tax rate & car buyers went there.? Next month, buyers may have to go out of state to find a car Dealer .?
. News tonight reported car race owner Roger Penske may buy out Saturn .?

That as I understand is only a 2 year deal......he is no involved with any manufacturing just sales....
Their are so many items on vehicles and weapons that are not printed correctly as for the lay person to understand or interpret. I tried last year when I was up to find more information on conversion of my FL CDL to TN CDL.... and all I got was double speak by TN DMV.

Tinman, you had me curious since my hubby has a CDL.. so I went searching.. in case we get moved back to TN this summer.
According to what i have found you would need a current DOT medical card, Proof of SS #, a current CDL from another state, and proof of Domicile in TN..
Hope that this info is current and up to date for drivers with CDL's.

This is correct. I needed these items to transfer my CDL from Arkansas to TN.

What I was trying to find out in person and by e-mail. I have all of the above you mentioned. But some where in the mess I found out you also needed to do the road test.( I think ) No problem on that "BUT" theirs only 6-8 sites in Tennessee that do CDL road test on certain days, then not being employed when I get their having to rent a rig, which I cannot drive legal because no TN CDL. I would have to find a volunteer from Tennessee to drive said rig to the exam site so I can take the test. Unless I luck out and find a employer that will let me use their equipment.... That's the catch 22 that I have yet to find out..... domicile address is with in 30 calendar days correct ?

30 days is correct.. the taking of the road test, must be something new. I know we have been gone from TN for awhile now, so if you need take a road test that must be new. I know hubby never had to do a road test before. Just transfer current CDL.

I moved back to TN in 2006 from FL, I had to show SS card, Birth Certificate, utility bills for proof of residency and CDL. Also had to show letter from Homeland Security saying I was cleared to haul Haz-Mat before I could take the Haz-Mat test here to keep the endorsement. That may have changed since then, My Son moved here two months ago with no CDL and they made him wait until he got his first utility bill to show proof of residency, they would not accept his lease/ rent reciept for proof to transfer his license.

So if your renting and having to wait till you get a more permanent address then I guess you would have to just go with a standard license. They go threw the whole mess of getting a TN CDL for the class your driving...

I transferred my CDL in July '07 and did not have to take a road test.
