This'll sound corny, but I don't care...

When I was a kid, for some reason, fireflies reminded me of Walt Disney movies...just kind of magical, surreal. I love 'em.

I've always had a lot around here out in the country, but they seem more plentiful to me this year.

They were discovered in the early 1990s and confirmed in 1995. There is one other place that has the synchronized lightning bugs: Congaree National Park, in South Carolina.

They usually stop sometime just before the summer solstice, so they should be winding down. I have yet to see them. I have vowed I am going to do it next year.

Boy do I know what you mean!!!!! We often take so many things for granted. I grew up in Illinois and was in Pennsylvania for 11 years. I've loved lightening bugs ever since I was a small child. They are indeed very magical--they used to be my very own Tinkerbell.

Being here in Florida--I don't think I am ever gonna see one--at least while I am still here.

We really wanted to move to Tennessee and we loved it as soon as we got here on our "recon" mission. But when we saw the lightning bugs we were captivated. At that moment Tennessee had our hearts forever.

I had land on my shoulder yesterday evening while I was coming in from the barn...he stayed there most of the walk up...I had my own personal lantern!

They were pretty thick last night. Beautiful.

Lightning bugs are great. They are just about everywhere but not all light up. I used to see tons growing up in Iowa but now not so much in Florida. Check out some interesting facts on them. Lightning bugs | Pest Cemetery

Makes me long for my childhood again,
