So many people are posting crime problems in Tennessee. Almost everyone is putting the blame on Memphis. Yes, Memphis has a lot of crime, and so does every other major city in the U.S. First of all, the main reason the numbers standout is because of the population vs. crime ratio. I live in Jackson. There were stats a couple years ago that said Jackson was #5 in the U.S. in crime with cities with a population of 50,000+. The latest had us at #9. Above Miami, Houston, even Chicago!!! Does that mean we are over run with crime too? All based on the crime to population ratio. I have lived in Jackon my entire life and the only crime that has been committed against me or my parents is that some random person broke in my vehicle to steal my stereo. But the alarm went off they ran away and I never heard from anyone again.

I've been to Memphis countless times, and never have I had a single crime committed against me. The entire city of Jackson isn't riddled with crime and Memphis isn't either. People act like as soon as you entire Memphis you will be shot or mugged or assaulted. Just like any other city, Memphis has areas that are high crime areas. If it was so bad why would 650,000 people live there and thousands more in surrounding suburbs? Give me a break!!! Everyone has crime. Memphis happens to be the area with the most in this state. Don't point all ten fingers at them!!!

I agree. Statistics are not reality.
