That, and Little Rock has a much more impressive downtown, at least from a distance.

Since we're splitting hairs, the latest Census data available shows that the Tri-Cities, TN-VA CSA has three thousand shy of half a million people. However, that was two years ago, so it is likely that we're there now. Still, though.

Actually, the 2008 Census estimate for the Tri Cities is 500,538.

Population Estimates

Isn't splitting hairs fun?

That's two of us outgoogled by the Google Guru.

Agree about the LR downtown. I was going to mention its more impressive skyline (and revitalized riverfront), but I didn't want to provoke. Not that these things are reason to move... or not move.

Actually, I didn't use Google (rarely do). I just went straight to Census Bureau Home Page to get the latest figures. Google can be a blessing and a curse.

And you're right about Little Rock's skyline and waterfront. LR's downtown River Market is awesome. It puts our Market Square's dinky farmers market to shame. LR also has a fantastic central library and regional library system that makes Knox County's library look embarrassing. And Little Rock has some beautiful in-town neighborhoods like Crestwood; Knoxville has absolutely nothing comparablek, unfortunately.

On the other hand, Little Rock also gets more tornadoes and gets hotter in the summer than Knoxville. And outside of downtown and the western suburbs, Little Rock seems pretty junky compared to Knoxville.

This is my input:

When I drive through Tennessee, I think "wow, pretty....oh my gosh, how gorgeous....WOW."

When I drive through Arkansas, I start thinking of various ways to end it all and kill the deadly dullness.

You want culture? Choose any of the metro areas of Tennessee.
You want outdoor recreation and a plethora of Christians? Choose northwest or western Arkansas! Good luck!

Only eastern Arkansas is that bad. The Ozarks and The Ouachitas rival the beauty and recreational opportunities of The Smokys IMO
