I took some photos at the annual Secret City Festival in Oak Ridge last weekend (June 15 - 16). There was no way I was able to do everything and the main thing I wanted to do and did, take the Y-12 bus tour (there were 3 stops where you could get off the bus), was a no cameras/cell phones allowed thing, so you won't see photos of that particular tour.

In case you are thinking of attending next year, free shuttle vans and buses ran from the mall parking lot (in the back near the Staples/CVS), so it was easy to park and a pleasure to get around to all of the events, especially if you are a heat wuss like me.

Here are some of the things that were at the festival this year:

Y-12 site tours (bus) (US Citizens with proof and photo ID only)
K-25 and history trail tours
WWII Living History and Secret Heritage Displays
DOE facilities public bus tour (US Citizens with proof and photo ID only)
Secret City Scenic Train Excursion
Tour to ORNL Graphite Reactor (US Citizens with proof and photo ID only)
WWII Combat Reenactment
Elvis Impersonator
Oscar The Robot
Gospel Singing Group
Oak Ridge Boys and Starship concerts
Dog Show
Knox Pipes and Drums
Bellydancers (?)
Taoist Tai Chi demonstration
Karate Demonstration
Oak Ridge Symphony Pops Concert
Antiques and collectibles Show
Documentary Film: The Clinton 12
Tennessee Juried Arts and Crafts Fair
Karaoke
Lavendar Festival at Jackson Square (herbs, etc.)
BMX Bicycle Stunt Show
Open Reheasal with Oak Ridge Community Orchestra
Ed Westcott (photographer) - Life In Early Oak Ridge Exhibit
Tennis Tournament
Exhibitors
Crafts (kids)
Climbing wall (kids)
petting zoo and pony rides
Euro Bungee (kids)
Home depot Kids Workshop
Magic and Illusions (kids)
marionettes (kids)

I'll upload some photos.

Lauren and I really enjoyed ourselves. What a fantastic festival. We didn't even come close to seeing it all. Then reenactment was great. We're still talking about it. It was great talking to some of the original residents of the "Secret City."

Look at that crowd scene at the reenactment. Are you in that shot?

I am much further to the left and sitting on the ground near the yellow tape. I wore my Comcast shirt in hopes you would figure it was us. I looked all day and just couldn't find you. I was SO convinced you would be easy to find. Boy, was I wrong.

I have covered a gazillion festivals, and can be pretty jaded, but that is the best I have ever been to. I think it's the historical aspect that really makes it great.

I was just disappointed that I couldn't go into that room with the history/military display because I had a camera and no place to stow it because I took the shuttle. Next year, I'll remember and leave the camera at home.

I thought of yodelling your name out in the crowd but, you know, that would have been rude.

The kicker is that I know that I walked by you. You were up on that hill and we walked right by!

Do you mean the display in the community center? If that's the case, I had a camera in my purse. It might be a different place. We did not get to see everything, it was a huge festival.
