Tennessee wildlife officials have closed access to all caves on public lands for a year to try to prevent the spread of a fungus that has killed thousands of bats in other states.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said in a statement Monday that it is responding to a request from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Nature Conservancy has also agreed to close all caves on its property.
