I was looking at Oak ridge and I like the way things sound there, you have country and you have stores too. Okay, Okay, I admit it, I am a suburban Jersey girl, and if stores are more than 15-2o minutes away I would get nervous, and I dont mean the MALL. I am not a mall person, but go there when needed,They make me crazy! But it seems Oak ridge has resturants and stores there. Am I correct? And how is Oak ridge really?

We are moving to Oak Ridge next week, but have visited several times now.

The mall there is currently pretty empty. There is a JCPenney, Belk, Goody's, Sears. You also have a WalMart and Kmart there. I've also seen other stores like Big Lots, Goodwill, some smaller local shops. Home Depot, Ace Hardware. It does look like the majority of shopping though is in West Knoxville which is about 15 or 20 minutes away. But the drive really went quickly and is a straight shot. I wouldn't say it is anything to worry about at all.

Hey, where I currently live in Indiana, the traffic is so bad, that even though the mall is here in town and I live in town, it still takes me at least 20 minutes to get there. So I'd rather just have a straight shot to drive and not be stuck in traffic.

Good luck to you!!!

Thanks for your help, Really, I would rather shop at the other stores than the mall anyway.15 minutes isnt bad at all. I live down the Jersey shore and in summer , forget it , we can even go to our own beaches, and trying to go ANYWHERE in the summer is horrendous!

Traffic from what we can tell really doesn't seem to be that bad down there. We have been down there a couple of weekdays but otherwise it has been on the weekend. Once I've experienced more of the rush hour traffic and such I can speak to it more. But compared to what we are used to in Indiana, it really was a breeze to get around.

I didn't mind the drive into Knoxville at all. It went quickly and actually I think it'll be nice to then retreat back to Oak Ridge.

We've lived in OR for the past 14 months and I love it. Oak Ridge has enough of the "basics" such as restaurants, shopping, movie, entertainment, etc. AND, if we get bored here, it's close enough to so much else! DH and I don't mind at all driving into Knoxville (we go east, west, north or south), Powell, Clinton, Maryville or Lenoir City to shop or eat. We have favorite places in all those cities and the best part is none of them takes longer than 25-45 minutes to drive to. The only "rush hour" I've found in OR is if you try to drive OUT of OR on Illinois. It backs up in Solway around 5 b/c of all the plants. When I say b/u, I mean you might actually inch along for a couple of miles but you rarely have to actually stop!

Godsdove, what part of town are ya'll moving to? Welcome and hope all goes well.
