You are so right, northcountrygirl. I think that country music today more than ever is saturated with real stories about real people. Many of them can bring you to tears.

I think there isn't a day that goes by that I don't hear a country song written just about my life! Does everybody hear those lyrics?

I agree that Kelli Pickler was genuinely touched as she sang that song. I know it has the same effect on me every time I hear it. I didn't know the history behind it before though. Thanks for filling us in, akm4.

His words? You mean the songwriter's, which usually isn't him.

No way, is she really? Will that be Katie Couric's scoop?

Also- I didn't mean for that last post to come across as being argumentative!! I just get tired of artists getting credit for the words of songs someone else wrote.

To y'all that haven't been around as long as some of us, akm4 just might, maybe, write some of those words.

Whoever writes them Kenny Chesney delivers them... in a very powerful way. Not too many artist write their own material these days. But if the songwriters words were not in the hands of someone with the voice to make them heard, they'd be poetry. I know because I can write but I sure as h-ll can't sing.

Yeah, I know you weren't being argumentative, akm4. I was just teasing because alleycat's timing was so funny!

And, you are right about song-writing. Many artists today write their own lyrics, but have someone put the thoughts to music. It's the heart that speaks and that is what we hear in most of Kenny Chesney's music.

With other songs one can get a tune in their head that just won't leave them alone, but a lyricist can turn that tune to gold with just the right poetry.

Little does it matter who writes what, it's the delivery that we all love so much.

Do you write music, akm4? Did not know! Once upon a time a long time ago in another era, I played guitar and sang with a group of terrific guys - mainly, college engagements and private parties. Ahhh, the good old days.

Yes, I write. As for the mechanics of it, I don't know of any artists who are solely lyricists. When I co-write, it's both words and music by all writers, which is by far the norm. Kenny does write, but not all of them, and certainly not all of them alone.

As for my music, you can go to MySpace.com - Alicia King - NASHVILLE, Tennessee - Country / Screamo / Turntablism - www.myspace.com/aliciakingmusic to hear some of my stuff. (This isn't advertising, as I don't sell CDs on that site)

Soon my episode of Don't Forget the Lyrics will air. Well, sometime between now and the end of February.

I have been a fan for a long time, akm4. I have to admit my husband was first, and I follow his lead usually. Thanks for all the info.

Please keep us posted on the "Don't Forget the Lyrics'" episode. All the best with it.
