Default rural low cost places in E TN?

my husband and i are looking for a rural, low cost place of living that is scenic. we like slow paced life. we're making a trip to TN (presently in IA) and want to search real estate, u know, the affordable kind, lol. still have one teenager with us and my elderly father, so we need some affordable square footage... any insights as where to look would be appreciated.
thankyou kindly.

Have you considered the Cumberland Plateau area? The cost of living there is much lower than in other parts of the country. There are many places on the Cumberland Plateau that are considered rural, but you could still be close enough to places like Cookeville (30,000 people) or Crossville (10,000 people) so that you could find the goods and services you will need. I plan to retire in this same area in 6-7 years. If you do an internet search for "Cookeville, TN Real Estate," you will find the websites of multiple realtors who can help you in your search for affordable homes. According to JMT, one of our regular members of this forum, schools in Cookeville are excellent, so your teenager should have good schools there. There are hospitals in both Cookeville and Crossville. Good luck in your search.
