Oh, yes, I have an opinion of 'Brownville' (locals rarely pronounce the 's' -- the 's' went to the Wal-Marts), and it is not a good one.

Well, let's see, this is 2009 and Brownsville is still in 1939. I'm sure there are people who love it there, but IMO, it's the kind of town that gives the South a bad name. Very old-fashioned, lots of racial tension, growing population of illegal aliens, to name a few things. There are other towns close to that area that I would rather in.

Thanks for responding, AmberFlynn. I had no idea, impressions, nor knew anything about the place. In fact, I had to look it up on a map!
It'd be nice if the first ones who knocked the place would say why...

As someone who grew up in Haywood County(lived in Stanton, but if you know anything about Stanton you know that you basically live your life in BrownSville as everything that you need is there) Ive never heard anyone pronounce Brownsville without the S and add it to Walmart. You dont know what you're talking about.

Brownsville is one of those towns where you could take it or leave it. If you're a local, then you are used to how everything operates. Its a clickish, racist, classist little town. For the white residents, its all about who you know. For the african american residents, its racist but you know it and you live your life. It racial makeup is majority african american but has very little african american leadership. Also, the schools are pretty decent but the kids are grouped by academics meaning if you're an A student, you're going to be in classes with people who are A students. You could tell what classes were top classes by the number of white kids in that class. There is no job prospects at all because the jobs that pay half decent salaries have been held by the same people for years. Most people who go to college dont come back unless they have a family business. Oh yeah, up until a few years ago I mean about maybe 10, the skating ring there did not allow african americans. Im pretty sure, not too many AA goes there to this day.
To someone whose used to a more faster pace and diverse surrounding, Brownsville will probably not be the place for them to settle. It would be too close-minded. I dont know how they treat non-locals because there arent too many but dont think you're going to go there and make your presence know, because you will get shut down. There are certain people who run that town and that's the way they like it.
