Two Tennessee cities ranked for live music
The Society of American Travel Writers just came out with their list of the top 10 cities in North America for listening to live music. Nashville came in at #4 and Memphis came in at #6. Tennessee is the only state with two cities in the top 10. Pretty sweet!
The top 10:
- New Orleans
- New York City
- Austin
- Nashville
- Chicago
- Memphis
- Montréal
- Las Vegas
- Branson
- Denver (?)

Denver I understand; the jamband scene in Colorado is huge. But Branson? Really? Never been there, but that seems odd?

Think Vegas without the showgirls and gambling. Branson has over 40 live shows at any given time and is a major venue for country stars. It has a reputation for providing wholesome family entertainment.
It's the theater and shows of Gatlinburg on a very big scale. In fact, the Dixie Stampede and many of the Gatlinburg shows have theaters in Branson.

I understand Branson much better than Denver...I didn't know it had a music scene...I haven't heard anyone introduced "Now, straight out of Denver, here's ***!"
I would have thought Seattle or San Francisco or perhaps LA would have been on the list...lot of bands out of those towns.
...and I guess I just don't know where to go in Memphis.

The Denver scene isn't one conducive to that sort of introduction. But lots of bands are products of and/or play in Denver ... String Cheese Incident, Infamous Stringdusters and the like.
