Whether you'll like it or not is such a personal thing. My husband and I moved here totally blind. We came from SW FL, so the economy is very close to what you have in Jersey. My husband grew up in Jersey as well, and had lived in Wyoming in the middle of nowhere and in California in Orange County. He's really into extremes I guess.

But when things in Florida went south, so to speak, we looked all over at places to move. We came to middle TN to look around for a few days and wound up buying a home. We got very lucky. We have - well, had - an amazing neighbor that introduced us to everyone. The first week we were here we met almost every single neighbor. The first couple days I'd say about 70% of the neighbors came over and offered to help us unload the moving truck. This has been the best move in the world for us.

But I've got a couple friends that moved from Florida as well that aren't as happy. One has lived in Florida for many years and is a little concerned about this move. They bought a nice big piece of land and are planning on building a cabin. But the slow pace of life they moved up here to enjoy is now on her nerves. They want to enjoy it, but not when it comes to getting their home built. *shrugs* Things are slower here, even when you don't want them to be.

The other friend is in Manchester and beyond miserable. She'd get out of here in a heartbeat if she could. She's not met anyone she gets along with and says the people there are not inviting to people moving in.

So I don't know if we got lucky or if we moved to the perfect area for us. I think a big part in moving here is don't expect to change things. They do things their way and have no desire to live the life you lived in Jersey. We don't want chopped up farms turned into subdivisions. We don't want bright lights, big city. I moved here to have exactly what I have; a small town (less than 200 people but thousands of cows), great mountain views, a very tiny school that has kids from 3 counties pulled in to actually have enough kids for a school, and an administration that knows these kids are their future and it shows. It's a very tight knit community. But some people just can't slow down and enjoy it.

My suggestion is take a month - or even a couple weeks - and come visit. And think very long and hard about the move. I got lucky. It may not work that way for you.

Nice post! Tennessee is what it is. I love it but it may not be for everyone. Some people have no desire to talk to people at the bank and the grocery store. Smiling and waving may not be their thing.

I moved to the city of Knoxville and met at least 80 percent of my neighbors and then some. There were people that walked over and I have no idea where they came from!

Tellico Plains Tennessee is a quiet quaint little town. We have bald river falls which is absolutely beautiful to see. There is a place called Indian boundary lake that will take your breath away. We also have a fish hatchery,and good places to eat. One of which is in down town Tellico called Town Square Cafe. It has free WIFI while you wait for your food to arrive at your table. Friendly service, good food, family owned and operated. We have a museum and many cabins available to rent. We don't even have a traffic light in our town. Just a few stop signs. Maybe we will see you around. God bless you, and may the Lord keep you and your family safe in your travels.
