Hi everyone. I am considering relocating and I would like some information on Crossville, Tennessee. Is it a good place for children? Are there activities for them? How about the schools, crime, employment.
I have gone into their website and researched and everything seems great but I would really like feedback from actual residents or people who frequent there.
I am coming from Miami so I want to make sure I make the right decision.
Employment opportunities are slim to none.
The schools arent all that. The last few years they have been under substantial financial strain.
What type of activities are your children interested in?
Crime seems about average to me. Most of the crime is theft and drug related crime.
Have you check out the local paper, the crossville cronicle. It may give you a better idea of the area.
Thanks to both of you for the reply. I clicked on the link & saw the paper, but not much happening. This is such a hard decision I wish I could get more feedback.
Let me know if you think of anything else or anywhere else.
:-)

Not much happening. Thats pretty much Crossville.
Can you let us know more specifically what you are looking for.
Crossville is a small sleepy town. It is a good place for children as far as being quiet and safe and having a sense of community. What activities are you children interested in? Sports are a big deal in this area. there is your usual, 4-H, scouts, parks, etc.
The schools are small and as I have said have been having financial difficulties. You can check out the schools' websites to get a better feel for the teachers and curriculim. Just type in cumberland county, tn schools.
You might want to look at Cookeville. It will probably have more to offer for kids and more employment opportunities, although that still not much.
I appreciate both of you taking the time to help me out. It is such a hard decision. I have lived in Miami all my life & I am just tired of all teh running all the time. It seems you spend more time in traffic than you should. Also yeah the weather is nice but it's Summer all year round. It would be nice to see the 4 seasons....
As for me I have 1 child and she is on the crafty & musical side. I checked out the school website & they look ok I just did not see any advanced programs.
I really want a place where making friends is easier & that has more to offer in a community setting. If there is another area please let me know.
As I said, Cookeville maybe more suitable for you. It is about 35 miles west of Crossville. It is larger town, the university is there, schools are probably better. I work in Cookeville although I live in Cumberland Co., so Im more familiar with Cookeville.

I highly recommend that you take one or more trips to Crossville to look around, talk to people, investigate the school and employment possibilities, and basically get a feel for the area. That is what my wife and I have already done and as a result, we've decided to retire in Monterey (between Crossville and Cookeville). JMT who is one of our members of this forum has said many times that schools in Cookeville are better than in Crossville, so you might want to consider Cookeville as well. Since Cookeville is larger than Crossville, you will find more goods and services there, and also more job opportunities. I've provided a link below that will take you to a video made by the Mayor of Crossville. The video may be helpful for you.
