Default Looking to move to Tennessee

We are looking into moving to Tennessee in a couple of years.I am looking into a nice small town or country area, with low cost of living, we would not mind a old farm house, since we love animals and love gardening. My family is Puerto Rican and we are democrats. We all are hard workers when we can find jobs, I will have my Cosmetology license by then, and my daughter will be in College she would like to go to college in Tennessee. We have visited Franklin and just over the border near Ruby Falls. I just want a safe and friendly area to live in.

My first thought would be to look at those towns that have state colleges (excluding the bigger cities of Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis). Those tend to be larger towns or small cities (Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Chattanooga, Johnson City, Cookeville, etc.) That might work for your daughter going to school, plus there is generally more job opportunities in the larger towns. Around these types of towns, you can generally find places out in the country that isn't a long drive from the downtown area, or where the college is located. Murfreesboro is a bit different because of it being so close to Nashville; north of Murfreesboro is mostly developed. There is a state college at Martin, and that is smaller town (in a more rural area).

You might want to have your daughter to decide on what colleges she's interested in. If she gets interested in East Tennessee State University, for example, there wouldn't really be a good reason for you to move to West Tennessee. Since you're moving anyway, and have no connections or family in Tennessee, moving to a location within a short drive to the college selected would seem to make the most sense to me. Your daughter might not want to live at home, but it's nice if it's not a half-day drive to go home.

If your daughter is planning to attend a public college, you will want to consider the regulations which will allow her to receive "instate tuition". For example, some states require that she be a resident in that state a certain amount of time prior to starting school (otherwise she might have to pay the "out of state" tuition which is very expensive). Something to think about when doing your planning in terms of timing your move.

Check out the area around Maryville as well. South of Knoxville.

In what capacity? (Nursing, tech, etc.)

Williamson Med is in Franklin, but Nashville area hospitals are an easy commute too. There are:

Baptist
Centennial
Vanderbilt
Summit
Southern Hills
Skyline
Stonecrest
St. Thomas

among others.
