That's a house built around a tree. It's like molding some wheels to your brick house and calling it a mobile home.

Well, I was there just last week and I went in September, too. You walk around at your own risk and the ground is very uneven. If you aren't steady on your feet, I don't recommend it. I especially don't recommend it when it's raining. That being said, I stayed outside and took photos but you can climb up in it and in the rain, I got a nice glimpse at one of the beautiful stained glass windows that I couldn't see in the sun.
It's very easy to get to. Coming from the east on I-40, get off at exit 320. Make a right at the end of the exit ramp and then the very next right at the traffic light right after the ramp only a few feet away (Cook Rd). Go all the way down Cook Rd past the high school on the left and Roane State Community College on the right until you see Beehive Lane on the left. Make a left onto Beehive. It ends at the property. There are all kinds of signs posted to indicate you can't go there but you can, again at your own risk.

Cool! I'll have to check that out sometime.
When I was a kid, a friend of my parents' had a house in Oregon that had been built around a tree. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.
...of course, I was about 9...

I have not been to the treehouse in about 4 years, but it is very interesting!! They have church pews carved into one of the levels with a podium, supposedly from what I heard from someone was that it was actually used for church meetings or such by the people who built it (who knows if this is true or not though!) Definitely something to check out if you ever come to Crossville.
