BBQ in Tennessee
I am driving cross county from virginia to california and I plan on making one of my stops in tennessee. Can anyone recommend some places to stop on my way thru your state, including any really good bbq joints i should try. I have never had really good BBq and i always hear Tennessee has some of the best.
thanks

Many of the best BBQ places tend to be located in the country, or off the beaten path just bit. One in Nashville that is both pretty good and not far from the Interstate is Jim N Nick's (off the Charlotte Pike 201 exit), It is a chain, but the BBQ is cooked on site in a pit. I would probably recommend some other places if you were coming to Nashville to visit, but Jim N Nick's would be an acceptable alternate.
If you happen to be coming through in the morning and want something else, there is also a Cracker Barrel restaurant off of that same exit (as well as a Super Wal-Mart if you need something).

Moogie's BBQ in Cookeville. It is just a drive thru shack, but has a screened porch area for dining. Take I-40 Exit 287 and it is downtown on Spring Street. Probably the best between Nashville and Knoxville.

Whitt's has several locations in Nashville and in middle Tennessee. Also, try Lawler's in Lewisburg. Gotta love the pork sandwich and Golden Flake Chips at Whitt's.
