I said I would consider, so I may be moving there not to west TN. Annie I'd still love to come visit if the offer is good. Nothing is a done deal yet, so west tn may be where I end up you never know.

I don't know if I agree with all the harsh comments about West TN on this forum but I think you should definitely consider Nashville and Middle TN. It's a very pretty landscape and the towns aren't so isolated.

Sally's Mom - we have always had an "open door" and I can't see that changing just because we move to a new house! We both enjoy company - just bring your bathing suit. I'll put on the tea and remember to halve the sugar just for you.

Sounds like Beachmouse had a bad experience in Martin and is blaming the whole of West Tennesseee for it. West TN is a great place to live and work. I lived in Knoxville and worked in the surrounding areas and hated it. The countryside was beautiful but I wasn't happy with my personal life and that made it miserable. I grew up in Middle TN (just outside Nashville) and would never move back there. Again, beautiful area but just not my cup of tea.
I currently live just north of Jackson. It is a rural area with rolling hills and friendly people, but most importantly it is where I chose to make my home. While West TN lacks mountainous areas it does have beautiful topography in its own right. It is "in the eye of the beholder". Anyone can make an area sound bad if they wish too. I might point out that Nashville has been ranked as high as 4th on the most dangerous cities list if I wanted to make the area sound bad. Nashville is, however, a nice town with a lot going for it. Again, just not my cup of tea. Home is what you make of it.
I would suggest living in North Jackson for a few months and explore to see what area towns look good. You will inevitably meet new people and come to know the region better. This area is beautiful, safe and friendly, contrary to what some people on here want you to believe. I can't imagine living anywhere else. In the end, what you make of where you live is up to you. Visit the area for a while and make up your own mind. I am sure you would be welcomed in West TN wherever you choose to call home.

When I ask for tea half sweet and half unsweet, no food service employee ever bats an eye. Even the natives admit that the industrial strength simple syrup isn't for everyone. (You just have to keep an eye out to make sure they don't mess up the ratio on refills)

Funny, I didn't mean to start a long discussion about sweet tea, but it is interesting. Actually I drink tea to avoid the carbonation and sugar of soft drinks (I hate artificial sweeteners). I can drink tea (both iced or hot) straight up with a little lemon. Anyway I think I will ask the company to pay for my living expenses (extended stay hotel) for a month before I actually decide exactly where to settle. Right now I am leaning towards the job that would be towards the middle of the state. I will have to travel extensively so I can visit all of you, maybe we can have a party! Anyone have suggestions of best places to live Nashville to NC border, north upper half? I guess I should take it to a different forum, but you all have been so nice, I kinda hate to leave.

It's not your fault. NYAnnie was inviting you to her house and wanted to serve the local beverage. And then I chimed in.
Things are usually my fault.
I'm in Knoxville and I love living here!
You can come and visit anytime! I have a very nice Southern patio that we can sit on. Ask JMT! But I don't know how to make sweet tea. Beretta gave me the recipe but I forget. It's on the forum somewhere. I'll have to look it up!
