The retires like it because the money they made in other areas goes further here, Texas is a great example of this. Warm weather, cheap compared to other parts of the U.S.
You make some excellent points there. I grew up in Knoxville, and in my opinion it is probably one of the least healthy in terms of economical growth ( real growth anyway) the real story is that it is heavily reliant on the service industry and retirees. Tons and tons of retirees who all want to live on the lake, gold course, or mountains and with them they bring their out of state money which I suppose helps the local economy ( Wal-Mart and Cracker Barrel) but it also puts a sort of stunt on progressive industrial development. Just look at the states of MI, OH, ... the rest of the rust belt. Those states are losing population like mad. I'd say a vast majority are moving down here.
I hope that TN learns from FL that a retirement economy doesn't really work that well.

Fort Myers, Florida had the same exact problem and now I see it happening here and I want no part of it.

Yup....we are here, snooping....LOL
hiks and sunny....we are HERE in Knoxville
We just packed out toothbrushes (or is it theethbrushes....lol. ), and left the next day. We have to get something in order, get moving with everything, if we don't want to get "stuck" in PA!!
OK, we went to Chattanooga, and spend a good time there, and came to the conclusion, that that area is not for us.
I took my husband up to the top of the smokey mountains......and he fell in LOVE with it. (He started daydreaming about doing a trip on the motorcycle up there...lol )
Now, don't forget...my husband has never really had the chance to fall in love with TN, like I did many, many years ago. So, guess what? It worked (I was working it, baby....just working it....lol), and he now WANTS to move to TN!!!! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!
But, he liked knoxville area better, and we are now looking into maryville and sevierville.....
Anybody has any input/ advice???
Thanks y'all.......

I'm not sure if you've decided on an area to live yet, or how much time you have to look around. But I'd take a ride up the Pellissippi Parkway (Rt. 140, turns into 162) and check out Hardin Valley, Oak Ridge, and Clinton. The lake, river, and hills are really beautiful around here.
It's a quiet area that's convenient to Knoxville. Oak Ridge has plenty of businesses to cover everyday needs. Clinton is smaller, rural, and has beautiful scenery. It's also close to Oak Ridge and it takes me 20 minutes to get down to Knoxville.
Have a great trip! Hope you find what you're looking for!

You're here? How cool!
You like Knoxville better than Chattanooga? I've never heard anyone say that. Are you guys lost?
What kind of area are you looking for? What kind of houses? What do you like to do? What is important to you?
What do you like about Knoxville? What didn't you like about Chatt?
Answer those questions and we'll have a better chance of steering you in the right direction.

Well, it was strange, but for some odd reason, my husband didn't "feel it", down in Chattanooga. Don't forget, he is looking into the opportunity to be employed in a nice, hopefully upper, restaurant. So, what we are looking for is very simple, since we are very simple and very down-to-earth people. A city busy enough with businesses or restaurants to support a job, and a county setting area, close by, to find our little pieve of heaven. My friend took my husband up to "blayne" (don't know if I spell it right ??? ), and he really LOVES it there.
So, all we need to do now, is trying to find a rental first to move into, so we can get our butts here already.....and after that finding jobs, which I think, will be our biggest task.
We shall see......
And yes, I know exactly what you are talking about, when you said traffic and constructions, and never get anything done....lol...
I've seen the changes here BIG TIME too, but, I've seen the WORSE down in FL....
TN Is still the place I fell in love with, and my goal was, to make my husband fall in love with it too....(I wouldn't really call it a "set-up"......lol )
If anything pops into your head, let me know......
I am so happy to be here...again.....

Thank you, and all other members, for all those kind words of encouragement and support! I don't have to know you to tell you guys that I love ya, and wish you guys also the best ever!
I've been trough hell those past several weeks, move so far, so much, and I am quiet SICK of it, was depressed at times, cried on several occations, fights and debates with my husband and other people...I am strong, but THAT, would have knocked an elephant on it's a**!!!!!
Thank's so much, you guys....and people wonder why I love TN.....read the posts, and judge for yourselves......

I didn't want to come right out with it, otherwise you'll think I am a stalker....LOL!!!!!!
But, hiks, THAT'S IT!!!!!!
Now, you better find your little piece somewhere around here also, instead of trying to venture into brand new territory!!!
Once I am moving here into my OWN house, the only way I will ever leave it again is in a body bag! I am NOT moving EVER AGAIN!!!
