Hi, can you tell me what they used to mine for ? We've driven up there actually last weekend. It is breath taking ! The scenery is beautiful and it is well worth the hairpin turns you have to take to get up there ! There are a few full time residents already and many houses are being built. We actually can't wait to get ours started.

Mining on Wilder Mountain
We were up there this weekend looking at land and loved the area. It is my understanding that they mined for coal. One of the pieces of land we looked at actually had coal in the rock formations leading up to the property.

They mined coal up here until the 1980's when the coal's high sulfur content made it not so environmentally friendly as well as not so cost effective.

There's this fake log cabin, with a giant "Wilder Mountain" sign attached to it. Two gazebos are adjacent and front, all garnished with fountains and ill-fitting landscaping. All this, I might add, was put in AFTER we bought the property. As you approach for the first time, you're likely to think of three scenarios: A. This is a miniature golf course, B. We've arrived at an extremely rural amusement park ride ("Hey kids. who wants to go on the 'Wilder Mountain'!") or C. This is a Florida-style retirement community, where nobody drives over 7 miles an hour, and tonite's bingo night. TACKY. I hope it's temporary. For class, pick up one of the lots that they still have for sale in Rugby.

We own multiple parcels on Wilder Mountain and have enjoyed living here full time for almost 2 years. We would like to correct you on a few details! Brick and Stucco structures are allowed. There is no ostentatious entrance to the properties they've cooked up. There's is a REAL log cabin, with a giant "Wilder Mountain" sign attached to it. Two gazebos are adjacent and in front, all garnished with a fountain and beautiful landscaping. Apparently you have lived in Florida too long and don't know what you are talking about. TACKY is hardly the word I would use to describe the welcoming entrance to Wilder Mountain. The word ostentatious should only be used to describe where we used to live in Florida, with all of the homes $750,000 plus, plus! Now addressing the pathetic comment about buying in Rugby, you are most likely a salesperson there who is miffed you didn't buy/sell up in Wilder?

We love being in Wilder and live here full time! The drive isn't really that bad. I drive it 4 times a day to take our kids to school. We could have them picked up by the school bus at the entrance but I just love the drive and the scenery!

However, it was getting frustrating to constantly see posts stating anyone willing to buy in Sequatchie Pointe has been scammed, etc. I researched a great deal before I purchased and am as happy with my purchase now as I was 6 months ago when I bought my property (a little over 3 acres). Yes, I bought with somewhat of a trust for the project to be completed as promised and the progress I have seen over the last 6 months appear to confirm. Actually, a friend of mine purchased several months back and told me that during a recent trip back there (two weeks ago) found that lots in Phase 3 are going for a 10% to 15% premium over a similar track from Phase 1 or 2. I cannot confirm that but have no reason to doubt the source. All I can say is I am happy with my purchase and look forward to breaking ground on my semi-retirement home in about 12 to 18 months. For those who have visited and elect not to buy I respect your decision. For those who have visited and decided to buy I look forward to calling you a neighbor. I still believe I have made an excellent decision and look forward to seeing its continued progress.

We also look forward to being the neighbor of another fellow Floridian. We purchased
in stage #3 and are happy after a wide comparison Tenn. land shope.
Looking forward to greeting YOU!! at SP

We own multi lots up in SP. Lot #3 is for sale, a lot less than 170,000. The development, roads etc, are bonded in Marion county.

Bravo WilderFamily. We are from Pensacola (Pace) Fl.We have 5 acres on Wilder. Ours is inland, so we got a great deal. And still have all the benefits.Love the area.Love the entrance. The fish pond is so serene. The log cabins fit beautifully with the surroundings.Could not be happier with what the developers have done. The people there in the office are genuine. Love the fact that we can have horses,go 4 wheelin, hiking, take in nature.Who said there was nothing to do? Get outside, there are not enough days in the week or hours in the day to enjoy it all.Take your time doing so,wouldn't want to miss a thing. My husband and I camped on ours (undeveloped) for 3 days and nights.Heavenly,I haven't felt that relaxed in years.Except when we were packing to leave and a snake crawled out from under the van,I guess he was saying Good Bye! He went his way and we went ours. Can't wait to get back up there. We make it at least once a year.Won't be building yet.We stay in Fl for his parents.Mine are gone. Our time will come and we will build.Definatly Something to look forward to.Take care.

We live in florida at the present, but hope to retire within the year. Have not been able to find any wrong doing with JJ Detweiler. Sometimes I think people post false information to try and sell their own land! If anyone has any concreat information please let me know.

Have had no problems.Haven't built yet.But have visited with a construction worker at a home he was completeing.saw his work in progress. He was a local and very friendly ,helpful, knowledgable of the area, happy to be working on the home he was building, very interested in quality of his work. I hope I can still find the mans card when we are ready to build. We ahve a Nephew in Kentucky that is a contractor and has lived in Tennessee. We usually ask his opinion and he helps us check out contractors. It's always wise to investigate.Talk to folks, nit pick a little. There are GOOD people out there. We feel very comfortable with Wilder Mt.And so far all our dealings with JJ Detwieker have been on the up-and-up.I was sceptical at first, afraid we had made a mistake, buy I have sence changed my mind.
