New to this site, am considering purchasing a lot on Wilder Mountain. Was wondering about the deal with the roads, anyone know if the county is going to be taking over maintenance? Are they salted during the winter, or are you pretty much stuck if it freezes? Who inforces the deed restrictions? Just driving around I saw temp. trailers being lived in and speaking to realtors, I've been told that the deed restrictions really aren't enforced. Has anyone had any problems getting a driveway installed or a septic tank installed?
I'm trying to get all the information I can before deciding to buy.
Thank You
B

HI Welcome to the site and Wlider Mountain. Driveways permits are not required and drainage is the big thing, A cuvert may be required. The premit for a septic system is around $250 you can pick one up in Jamestown. They require a perk test if the lot is smaller than 5ac. This was several years ago but I don't think anything has changed. Very little permitting is needed to build a house Electric permits are required and you can pick them up at little expense I paid $27.50. If you buy you will love the area I know I do. Skip Park

We own 19 acres in the Little Piney Creek side of Wilder Mt. We had a driveway and well put in. We will be looking for the electric to come down the road soon as they stated in the agreement they were to do this. The easements have been done but just waiting on the next step. We don't have anyone near us with trailers or building but we are further out than where you are looking. We love it.You have to really love being away from everyone.
Good luck

New to Wilder Thread
Just found this thread and think it’s great. I am a co-owner of a lot on East Obey Lane. I was there last week and saw the street sign and stop sign at 85. Noticed in the thread that there’s a property owners group and will try to make one of the meetings in the next couple of months. I am still reading though the thread to catch up on past events.

Jobs around wilder
We went up to our property on Wilder mountain in early 2007 to see if we were ready to move up there but just thought it would be way to far to find any decent work for us. I am in the remodeling buisness and my wife if in the medical billing field. We ended up moving to the Atlanta suburbs to get closer for now because we knew it would be easier to find work(we moved from West Palm Beach Fl.) How is everyone else who moved there doing job wise and where do you have to go for work.

Well as you know the construction industry is pretty hard hit right now. While remodeling is probably better off than new construction, the price of materials is just putting the pinch on folks. The medical field in Crossville is probably pretty decent as Fairfield Glade has a large retirement population but wages are probably severely lacking in comparison to Atlanta.
If a person is retired, then moving up to Wilder mountain is probably an easy thing to do if you like being, "out". However if a person is moving here and needing to work, then they may find things a bit more difficult. Things are getting tough due to the economy and competition for the few available jobs is something to consider as well as likely to keep wages low.

Thanks, thats all pretty much the way I thought it was but unfortunately we're not ready for retirement for 15 to 20 years and even if I could find work there the gas alone would kill me as it is now.On the other hand I'm very fortunate to have a job to go to here. I guess I'll just have to hold out for a while.

jobs
My husband and I both work for the same company and they have started to let employees work out of their home. This would be great for living in Wilder. Alot of companies are starting to do that(depending on the type of business field you are in). We are hoping in the next 5 years we can build and move there working from our house.

How much will your driveway cost? How long will it be? will it be straight or curved? I am on Bobcat Lane (one day we will build) and will get some quotes for my own driveway in July. Which company will you be using? What is the contact number?
Sorry for the barrage of questions.

We live in West Palm Beach and own on Wilder Mt. Ten more years to retire. 15 to live comfortably. I will visit my lot July 10th and 11th. Last time my starter died on the mountain and had to get towed to Monterey. After that happened, I considered buying a tow truck and starting my own business!!!
