I posted the link to the site that states which way he voted while in the Senate, and I like what I see. http://www.ontheissues.org/senate/Fred_Thompson.htm The abortion issue, I disagree with him on, but there's no 100% agreeing with anyone, and I see a better track record with him than with anyone else. And MBMouse: As for the line item veto - it'll be a cold day in heck when you see that. Too much pork goin' around to let that certain instant vote getter, go. Again, I'd like to see where Fred stands on a national consumption tax - such as Tennessee has. No income tax. No IRS. No FICA. Just a nationwide consumption tax. blessings, Shen |

I looked at the website Shen suggested and a couple of others. It seems likely that in the coming weeks there will be plenty more popping up as well as expansion of information in those that now exist.
I'll watch for more information to come along, but for now I've seen all I need to see to know my vote based on the positions he's taken in the past. He holds several positions that I also take and several that are not too far apart, but many more are opposite to mine. I’ve still seen nothing to cause me to vote for a Republican (except Ron Paul and he won’t get the nomination). I’m going to pass on the why and why-not questions. I don’t trust myself in this forum. I’ll be a good boy and keep my participation to “read only.” |

I'll be honest in that after the last election, I was really considering going libertarian since I thought that both candidates were roving idiots. The only person who I felt had half a clue was Wesley Clark, and hardly anyone knew who he was. The whole thing was a popularity contest.
Out here in Cali, it was an outright freak show: The super-liberal crazies were out en mass. I was a fairly staunch liberal myself, but after hearing some of the truly mean spirited things some of these people said about "Jesus Land", I sort of had a change of heart. The super-conservatives were doing the same things. Now I think I'm more of a moderate: Whoever has the best plan, the best ideas, and can hold a conversation above 6th grade rhetoric is in my book A-ok. I'll happily vote for anyone who can in my eyes do the best job. So if Thompson steps up to the plate and has a good plan, then so be it. If Obama has a better campaign, so be it. May the best person win. |

By the way, there's a book called "Jesus Land" that I just ordered through the library. Funny that you brought that up! |

I'm Libertarian on certain things, but that party doesn't fit my religious beliefs, so I switched to Constitution Party.
I really like Ron Paul, was actually working on his election committee here in PA (yes, even as a member of the CP). He's a firm Constitutionalist, I respect him very much - but, stick a fork in it, he's done. He'll do much better in the background, IMHO. Right now, I'll switch to Independent. But, I've already volunteered to work on the committee to elect Fred Thompson. But, I'll do it still as an Independent. HappyAppy: Have you read Young Patriots and Jefferson's Great Gamble by Charles Cerami? I highly, highly HIGHly recommend both books. blessings, Shen |

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (Jesus as quoted by John 13:34-35) People seem to forget this, or to ignore that commandment. blessings, Shen |
