Hey Hsensation,
I am in the process of building our log home to start and rent it in phase 1.
I plan is to also pay little payments and let the renters pay my bills.
Rentals in that area could go from 800-1400 a week, depending on when.
I also stayed at Grandview and could not stand the drive it took. Having a house right off of 111 is perfect. I also live in South Fla and will plan on making Hawks Bluff my home.

miper70,
We also bought in Phase V and cannot wait to head back up there to see all the progress that has been made since we purchased. I think it is going to be a beautiful place.

You would think that a company trying to sell would make sure that things are marked well. We were down in the area a couple weeks ago and decided to look for ourselves. The directions on their web site says to turn down Simmons road. Of course, it was the only street that didn't have a street sign. I finally got out my GPS to determine which road it was. Secondly, when we finally found Simmons road and go down it there's not a sign any where that says Hawks Bluff. We saw an area that we assumed was Hawks Bluff since there was a lot of construction (putting it streets, utilities, etc) going on but we never were sure.

I'm planning on coming up in the next month or so and would like a nice place to rent for probably a week. My Mom has vetoed moving up, but we are still very interested, but want to make a few trips up first. Can anyone recommend a cabin with a view that's centrally located so that we can make it our "base camp" while we check out some of the places that have been discussed on the forum? How much do such places rent for?
We are a couple in our late 50s, no kids, no pets and don't smoke. We would like to take a look at areas with other people in the same demographic if possible. Hobbies are music and we love to eat out and walk in wooded areas. But on the other hand we want to be reasonably close to good medical care and something for the grandkids to do when they come up!
Is that way too broad for anyone to help us?
Recommendations for areas that are a "MUST SEE" and rental possiblities are appreciated. Thanks!

More on Advice for Quick Trips
I forgot to ask about DSL. I don't want to come across as a work-a-holic or an internet junkie, but I do have to have DSL internet service at least an hour or so per day. Is that possible?

Don't know of anything execpt Falls Creek Falls for rental right now. I know down the road there is going to be rentals in Hawks Bluff from what I hear.
I know of one that might be going for rent in Sept or Oct. I also look around to rent close by, but hard to find.

I purchased in phase 4 last year and we live in Wellington, Florida. I commute to Boca every day for work. We just fell in love with the area, Palm Beach county is way too crowded for us and we look forward to livining in a rural area. Do not mind the fact that we will have to drive to Cookville to shop and for all the stores that I will leave behind in Florida I can drive to Chttanooga for. We went to the Log Show in Orlando this month and are now in the process of working on plans with a Log builder. Our target to build in Hawks Bluff is approx. 2 to 3 years. Whether we make the move permanently at that time is up in the year. Good luck to you!

look forward to hearing from you.
your neighbor,
mary
