I would love to hear about the state, the economy, the culture, etc. Also if there are any areas that have relatively large populations of latinos or schools with bilingual programs. What is the political climate like, in general? Thanks!

I'd say that fortunatelly, there are just a few "latinos" in Tennessee. And I say fortunatelly, because I cannot understand why somebody wants to come to this country, and then prefer what left behind instead of the culture and traditions of his new country. Isolating and segregating to create a minority is not good. There is nothing wrong in keeping the flavor of the culture but must be blended and melted into the American to create on bigger and stronger culture. That meling start with forgetting Spanish, at least from the front door of the house, and learn a perfect English.
I doubt TN people will tolerate something like Miami or California. And to tell you the truth, I am the first one against it.

Interesting thing happened tonight...my mom called to say her neighbors (a nice family Hispanic family) are driving up to Cleveland to visit family and look at possible relocation. Their daughter plays with ours when she's with Grandma so we may have them as nearby neighbors again.
We'll be looking for good Mexican food in the area...any suggestions

If you want the real deal, Main Street downtown has some diners that you just have to try. Shrimp stew, REAL tacos and burritos, smoked chicken YUM!!! Now these places look kinda seedy but if you want some GREAT food and are tired of the Tex-Mex we get served everywhere else that's the place to go! They might have someone to translate for you If you want something typical, try Cancun or Amigos. Good and reliable "Mexican" food. The Chimichanga is my fav.

A point to ponder
Funny, I'm quite sure if I wanted to inquire where in Tennessee there was a l large white English speaking population living, or if I asked in which towns the white new-comers seem to be settling, I'd be immediately called out for being small minded and "racist" . Apparenly, we are the one ethnic group that is not allowed to have our own "culture", or to even desire that. Sorry, not a politically correct post I know, just making a point. No one likes to admit it, but that is a huge reason so many white (oops, bad word) people are moving to Montana.

Not a politically correct post, but it is a political one. Posts like that are why this guy's not gonna get the answer he needs because the thread's gonna get moved. What if someone asked where there was a large Irish population, or German, or whatever? In fact, I recall one recently--they were looking for Norwegians, if I remember correctly.
Get over it; if you can't answer, just skip the thread. Good grief.
We all have opinions on things but we need to stay on topic.

I agree. But in that case, threads like these should be considered political from the beggining and moved automatically or immediately. The problem is, the vast majority of Americans are not tolerating certain things anymore and is not fair to ask them not to say their opinion; because she is completely right. We have BET TV, Telemundo, UNIVISION, Black history month, what if the people ask for a "White channel", or "The great White day" hahaha it will be the end of the world for many; KKK!! police!! racism!! help me!! amnesty Intl'!! LOL

Zydeco anyone?
I'm French-American, Cajun (Acadian) ancestors. I think I'll never be able to speak Cajun. I have some relatives in SW Louisiana I can barely understand.
