Survey Cost Information
Does anyone have information on how much is charged for surveying property? Does they charge per foot, yard? And would the price vary per County?
My focus is changing to the middle Tennessee upper border counties, primarily in Sumner, Robertson, Clay, Fentress, Scott, Macon, Pickett, and Overton Counties.
Has anyone gotten property surveyed in one of those areas?
Thanks much!
blessings, Shen

The surveyors i've used on properties have charged by the hour, some of the properties i've purchased have been simple and only run around 350.00 these were in existing subdivisions with prior surveys they could work from off of neighboring properties, some have been expencive. Some older developments in Tennessee were surveyed using wooden pegs that are long gone, One property I purchased the surveyor had to go about 1/4 mile away and work back. I purchased two lots at differant times that adjoined each other from two differant individules and had to have them surveyed twice because the city would not allow me to build across my own lot line.

That's the big question . . . is the a general land survey, or a survey of a subdivision lot? There's generally a set fee for a lot, an hourly rate for more complex surveys. Often times the mortgage company will arrange for the survey.
I used to do surveying. It's been a few years however.
By the way, if you need someone to do more than a lot survey in Robertson or Sumner County, let me know, I can recommend a couple of firms.

That would be surveying something between 20 and 40 acres. We're talking with friends about our potential move to TN, they're interested too, and so we're talking about getting a 40+ acre plot, and dividing it between the two couples, dividing the cost, getting more bang for the buck so they say.
So, this may be in one of the other border counties, most likely, as I don't see any large parcels of land of that size in Sumner or Robertson Counties. Although, I have seen some really nice property there, so if the couple backs out, I do like the idea of Sumner County, with it's proximity to Nashville (better pay, more work for hubby & me) and to Bowling Green KY. Plus, that'd be closer to some friends who live in Clarksville, and other friends who live in KY.

A surveyor will want to do that by the hour. There's too many unknown factors in doing a survey of 20 to 40 acres to do it on a set fee.
More often, the seller of a piece of property will have a survey done before he puts it up for sale.

I just called to price surveys in McMinn County.
It was going to cost about 45 cents a foot. 5 acres was estimated at $1,049
a 1200 foot driveway was about $540
The man told me if there was a previous survey with posts and the same person did it again, it is a lot cheaper.
If you want the land marked, it costs more
