Comfortable buying a home before living there
I would surely love to be among u guys here ...........Moving to Maryville, buying up a home esp since the real estate isn't getting any cheaper there. But, I still am afraid that I will buy, and not be able to afford it, or I will not like the area I bought into and want to live in another, things are so different once u actually move to a place! How are u guys so sure of yourselves? It amazes me the number of people that just buy a house cross country, instead of renting first.......Doesn't this make u nervous? I want to buy so bad mainly because I have already wanted to move to Maryville about 5yrs ago, and wish I had done it then........I could have picked up a house so much cheaper, so I am thinking the sooner the better, but ooooohhhh it makes me nervous.........What are your thoughts, or your thinking patterns on this so I can get a handle on things others are doing to make this dream of mine possible. Like I said this has been a dream of mine for about 5yrs now.......! Anyone want to share? What brings u buying, and not renting first?

We have the luxury of being able to keep our current house and renting it out after we buy in TN. That way, if we really don't like it there, miss CA (as if) or just for some reason can't stay in TN, we will have a place to go and the most we'll be out is moving costs. It does make me a bit nervous buying a house cross country, but I've always been an adventurous, fly by the seat of my pants kind of person. I don't anticipate not liking it there, if only because I figure that as long as I have my husband and children with me I can make anywhere home.
Just my 2 cents.

The town you're leaving will still be there if you decide to return. Why not think positively and act accordingly? You'll be fine. If not, sell and go back. I think you already know what you want to do. Trust yourself, take the leap.

I personally wouldn't buy anywhere without really knowing the area, the culture, the people, the traffic and a guarantee that I had a job and the wages to support said house.
But that is just me.

Hiknapster makes a good point there. (Common practice for her. ) In the end, it comes down to your own comfort level. How much risk are you okay with? Everyone is different, and you know yourself better than any stranger on a forum.
Good luck with whatever you decide, and keep us posted!

Thanks akm4!
Some people can get away with buying a house sight unseen, but not many.

We are coming down in July, we were pre approved for a mortgage,I will be attempting on buying a home down there,I actually plan on it. You see we are trying so hard to keep our heads above the water and we are struggling.i figure, I have been through worse in my life, losing a son,So, as long as I have my hubby 2 other kids and my grandaughter with me , we will do ok.And we wont be drowing in debt, Yeah, I am scared, but I feel this is meant to be for us.When we come home from vacation, I will pray for a sale on my home.I wish you the best of luck! I hope you get all you wish for....phyl

We have changed locations 10 times now, 7 of them we drove to the area (never been there before) and we had about 10 days to come up with a house and one time we only saw it on the 'net before we bought it. We only regretted it twice and sold very quickly and moved again. We are looking at Maryville this time and have been in the area before so we have some kind of idea what to expect. We will probably come out for a week or so to figure out exactly where to look for a house and identify some to think about. It is hard to choose a house when your current one has not sold so we wait until we have an offer and then we have 30 days to git er done! Don't stress, do what feels right for you, if you need to rent first then do that, it may save you some headaches later......
