Hi, Here in Cookeville I know of 15 people from California. None of these people are related to each other.

Hi chisoxfan,
Thanks for your post. I'll do some research on the Greenville area. I appreciate your input.

Hi John1960,
You probably have not met many people from California because most native Californians would not want to live in Tennessee or any place in the south. My feeling is that it would be difficult for someone from a place like California to appreciate all of the great things about Tennessee unless they were born and raised in the south. I'm not saying that a Californian could not adapt, but without being very open-minded and the ability to easily adapt to changes in culture and environment, it would be difficult for them.

I'm from Michigan (Detroit area) - how's the Southern way of life so different? I'm starting to research moving out of state because (eventually) they'll sell Michigan to the Canadians. Seriously, the economy is so bad it'll be like the US dumping a bad investment.

Bottom line as to why retirees are moving here en-mass is that other retiree cities like Miami, much of Florida, Arizona, Oregon, and Parts of NC are already heavily settled by retirees and TN is nice and cheap in comparison.

I have to disagree with you. I was born and raised in California. I prefer the lifestyle of Tennessee over California. I can see why (from other posts) others think that they would be outcast by others. I personally think that you need to be careful how you classify others. See, I personally don't let people like you change my oppinion about other places. I hope you have a good day

Hi, The people I know are here was natives of California. They came here to Cookeville to start a business here and also some came from a place called Watts which is a war zone now in California. Some even told me they wanted to get away from the Mexicans and high crime.

My FIL is retired and I've been telling him about how many retirees go to TN...and he seems to think it's like hell on earth...too hot, too many rednecks, etc..
It's going to be funny to see his attitude adjustment the first time he comes to visit.
The city he has thus far chosen to live in is full of some of the most bitter, rude, and arrogant rednecks I've ever seen...anywhere in the US.
And, it's in Missouri.
