I have a potential job opportunity in Pulaski-any input on the area? I have horses and will obviously need to find a small farm. We are now in SWFL which is a different world-especially since I am originally from WV. SWFL has really changed since my husband moved here in 1956. Everyday I deal with people who are angry with me because I don't speak spanish???? I recently went to a Target and asked a sales clerk for some help and she shrugged her shoulders and said "I dont speak english" and walked off! The crime has really increased just in the past 4 years. The other people posting about the cost of living and inability to obtain affordable homeowners insurance is correct. Looking forward to change (especially the horses-they did not like the hurricanes!)

Hello my friend from Florida. I too was a Floridian, lived there my whole life till 3years ago. Central West coast area used to be a wonderful place too but just like many areas in Florida it has changed dramatically. So many people have moved there the majority of people are in such a hurry, angered with traffic snarls etc they have become unfriendly and down right rude. Of course I'm not talking about everyone but I am talking about the majority of them.
I now live in Pulaski. What a difference. If you like rolling hills, fresh air, farming communities and down to earth good people... consider checking it out. This is a place where most people will stop and say hello, wave as you drive by, give a helping hand with out being asked. You smile at someone you will always get one back. The schools here are small and they really focus on educating children. There is no gang violence, kids arent scared to go to school. Its a wonderful place to raise kids. This is the way it used to be where I grew up but times have changed. The Pulaski-TN website states this is the land of milk and honey. That pretty much sums it up, it is one of the few places left that I know of that will welcome you and your family to their community without caring where you came from, how much you are worth or who your relatives are in the area. We moved here not knowing a soul. People are very friendly here. You wont find many "wanna-be" rich snobs. People dress and drive whats comfortable for them. They value their hard earned dollar and family comes first over everything else. Come check it out. Go to any store in town and see what kind of service you recieve compared to "down there" . I think you will see what I am talking about. Hope this helps you a little on your decision. |

Hi,
Since many of my relatives were born/died in Pulaski(Giles Co/Mid TN), we have visited several times. I know that visiting is not the same as living there, but wanted to share that we loved it there for many of the reasons the previous poster stated. It is beautiful, and there seems to be a great mix of old and new, with a wonderful respect and pride of the town's history. We spent alot of time in the library and courthouse. Met a lot of locals in various places, and found everyone to be delightful. If my husband had not gotten a job in Oak Ridge, was definitely on our list as possible new home location (we moved from CA as CA natives). We now live in Clinton, and love our new life here. Good luck! |

Several years ago, we looked at land in Giles County before settling on some in neighboring Lincoln County. Since you are going rural, eastern Giles and western Lincoln are both very pretty with lots of pasture land and gorgeous rolling hills. I would imagine that you can get more for your money in Giles, though; prices in Lincoln have been skyrocketing due to the anticipated growth of Huntsville, AL.

I visit friends in Pulaski (Minor Hill area actually)like 3 or 4 times a year and it's defiently different. It's a smaller town with that small town atmosphere where everyone knows everyone. And you'll feel welcome almost at once.
And like SRA said it's beautiful down there especially in the summer when everything is green, with the hills as a backdrop. It's great. There's even spots on the side of the road that people stop & fill empty jugs up with water that comes out of the sides of the hills. And I gurantee your horses will love it. Seriously check it out. You'll be surprised. And you shouldn't get "I don't speak English" from the salespeople either. |

We visit Pulaski about every week or two. Some comments:
Haven't yet found a good place to eat there. Tried the Country Kitchen and it was just so-so. For some reason, even the fast food places seem a little sub-par. One telling response for us was when we asked a local for a good place to eat, he sent us to Ardmore! The people are fantastic. Even shopping in the Home Depot, the clerks are individuals with their own stories and personalities, and extremely helpful. Sunday is dead. Except for the WalMart and Home Depot, shoppers might as well stay home. There is a fine four-lane road to I-65 and then on to the Franklin and Nashville area. Major city life is maybe 90 min to 2 hrs away. The Walmart has a horse parking area. Sales tax is 10%. The city doesn't appear to be especially prosperous. Parts of it are a bit run-down, and the shopping strips don't have any cohesive landscaping that would bring more definition to the city. OTOH, other parts of the city are fine. There is a potential for tornadoes and driving rain. Rather than living in Pulaski, you might consider Minor Hill, which is nearby. The entire area is in drought conditions and has been for a couple of years. Hay can be expensive. |

I'm originally from Pulaski (graduated from GCHS in 1978), but now live in Phoenix after retiring from the US Air Force.
Haven't been back there in over 20 years but I liked the town and the people. I'm sure it's changed since I was last there, and everyone I knew is probably elsewhere by now. Farming and retail were pretty much the only opportunities at the time. |

I just found this website, so, this did take a while to reply -
I moved from Fla. to Pulaski 16 yrs. ago. WPB had changes so much. Drugs, Violence, etc. Pulaski was breath of fresh air, and it still is. There have been many changes since moving here. The problems we left in WPB are slowly creeping here. We didn't lock our doors then, now we do. There isn't much for shopping - there's local and the merchants are great, but no malls. You can still write checks without a check card! We do have a movie theatre with first run, family movies. We have some wonderful churches and there is a lot of activity there. The school's are pretty good. In saying that, it's more or less up to the student if they want to learn. I love living here and never want to live anywhere else. I pretty much raised the kids here and they both live in Nashville. My daughter is moving back when she gets out of grad school. They're both very happy with Tennessee. You don't have to go far to get much! |

cvandoran;
So what is Pulaski like nowadays in terms of crime? Growing up in that area,we didn't really have much crime to speak of. Admittedly that was many years ago, though. |
