Hampton is very much in the mountains of E TN and close to western NC.
The closest hospital is in Elizabethton, TN. There is a Family Dollar and some gas stations and a few fast food places in Hampton I would assume all who live there would shop for slothing in Elizabethton (10 minutes away)or Johnson City (25 minutes away).
One of my favorite places in the world is in Hampton...Doe River Gorge.
It's a beautiful area!
We have friends who built a cabin in Hampton for a second home, but now live there fulltime. They get groceries and gas in Elzabethon but do all other shopping in Johnson CIty.
