Okay, I'm sitting here looking at the headlines of my newspaper (Times-Picayune for those of you wondering) this morning and getting another dose of reality. Try these:

Local schools preparing for millions in state cuts -- at a time when the state (LA) has some of the worst schools in the country and it also is trying to figure out what to do with more than a billion dollar budget SURPLUS due in large part to increased oil revenues. Duh! Granted the cuts are primarily due to a drop in enrollment as a result of Katrina but gee whiz, let's not use this as an opportunity to take the extra money and actually improve the schools, eh?

(Congressman Bill) Jefferson Pleads Innocent in Bribery Case -- Another crooked local politician. What more needs to be said?

LIFT Tax Credits on Hold Amid FBI's Abuse Probe -- A company (LIFT) took advantage of a state tax credit program for the movie industry.

Road Home will Overrule FEMA Estimates -- Two government agencies can't AGREE on what the difference is between major damage and minor damage from Katrina.

Back to the Slammer -- Who gives a c**p about Paris Hilton?

We Have Liftoff -- (Space Shuttle Launch) Oh my, there actually IS something good going on in the world.

What, no murders? In New Orleans? Of course there are. They just didn't make the front page. In fact, they didn't make the second page. The three shootings and one murder are listed on page B-4. At what point did murders become so insignificant that they don't even make the front page of the SECOND section of the newspaper.

Please tell me TN is different!
That's why we're considering a move.

Lewiston selected for honor
ANAHEIM, Calif. - It's Lewiston's year.

New Portland woman slain
NEW PORTLAND - A businesswoman in the process of selling a family-owned company was found dead outside her home Friday morning and police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Moderator cut: Provide a link instead of copying everything here, please

Murder made the front page, but most likely because the town in which it happened is very small, and murders are not commonplace in that area. I think spoiled Ms. Hilton made all papers. Glad to see a judge stand by the law.

Yes, been here all my life, but we're going to be heading south before too many more months go by. Just have to find the right area. Hoping it will be Tennessee.
