Help! Looking for nice Mountain City in TN w/ LOW CRIME
Currently living in Virginia and the crime here is horrible! (Norfolk/Hampton) It's almost to the point I am scared to go out, even during the day! Shootings, stabbings, drugs, gangs, etc. SCARY! We are looking to go to TN,prefer close to mountains or within a short drive, but also close to a city for a good job. Any suggestions?
How is Chattanooga? Knoxville?
What's the average house cost?
Thanks A Bunch!

I went to College in Nashville and used to live in the Western NC mountains.
Either area you mentioned will have small towns within a half hour 45 minute drive that are average or below average in crime.
I would suggest that you look on craigslist to get a sense of the housing costs.

TN is nice!
Hi there, I'd recommend Maryville, Tennessee. It's in the foothills about 20 miles from Knoxville, but minutes from the mountains. The crime rate is low and the people are sooo nice! We've lived here about 2 years and really like it.

Hey
I would recommend harrogate tennesse because its sits in a valley between mountains and is close to cumberland gap which is a historical trail used during the daniel boone times. It's also an historical area which has a great college.

You also might want to check out the Tri Cites area. There are lots of smaller towns, such as Pinny Flats, Gray and such that are about crime free and easy drives to the mountains, NC, VA, Pigion Fordge, Gatlinburg, ect. Lots of jobs, plus property is still cheep. Lots of people that rent in other state find that they can afford to buy here. email me for more info.

Tri Cities: Land of Oportunity
Aside from the mountains (which we have PLENTY of) what other considerations do you have? Need a job? Have kids? Need a house or land? Did you want rural or quasi-city w/o the violence?
I would love to offer more insight to whats available in eastern TN. Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol are nice cities and we have many lovely rural towns. Erwin is near the NC border 45 minutes to Asheville with lots of hiking, fishing, rafting and kayaking.

I'd like to hear more about it. We have always thought we would live in N.C. ( and still might) but the taxes has us thinging maybe Tenn and the homes seem cheaper. What do you know about Maryville? We will need jobs, but don't have kids, we want to be close to the mountains. Any ideas?
