There are several properties that have our attention, but until I can find suitable employment, our plans are limited. My daughter and her family are moving from AZ to Elizabethton in AUG. He is a teacher so he they have to get settled ASAP. I know Lexington is still 6+ hours way, but that's not all bad. The most difficult thing will be not seeing our grandkids as often as we do now.

Have you been fishing lately?
If I remember correctly (haven't lived in West TN since 2001) Lexington is somewhat limited in employment opportunities. You may be forced to work in Jackson, which will probably be a 20-35 minute drive, depending where in Lexington you live and where in Jackson you might work.

I only have extensive knowledge of two areas of TN, but based on what you enjoy I think Lexington might be one of the best areas for you. I wouldn't worry about crime at all. Stay away from crowded neighborhoods and you'll probably only notice crime there when you read the paper or watch the news.

I don't do much fishing any more; I've only been twice this year, but had a good time on both trips. Around March I went to Brown's Lake in Lexinton and did some jug fishing w/my brother. A few weeks ago did some bream fishing in a small pond not far from Lexington.

Another good thing about the fishing in that area is that you are so close to other great fishing areas other than the Lexington lakes within an hours drive. There's the TN river in Decauterville, Lake Graham in Jackson, and the Hatchie and Forked Deer Rivers aren't too far away and are seldom fished.

Default Lexington, TN

For what it's worth, I have a good friend who recently moved there from Memphis when he retired. He and his wife had visited a number of towns in west Tennessee when they came across Lexington. He raves about it and has tried to get me to check it out. Of course you need to realize that he didn't need to find a job when he moved. He is pretty close to the lake. I may try to get him to chime in on this thread. -Bob

Yes, we have and are considering the Johnson City area and Marysville areas. The drive is a major concern for us... And to think that we won't get to see family as often as we'd like too, is a major concern as well.

I am not one for prolonged cold, so mild winters are high on my preferred list. Our other considerations are employment opportunities, equestrian friendly, and a fatih based community. I know that short of heaven, no one place is going to meet our every desire but some will more than others...

I have been in manufactring management for 25+ years and would like to make a meaningful contirbution to an organization where my skills and abilites are needed.

Thanks for your suggestions...

Default It really helps to have input from others...

Thanks again...

I have been in contact with several realtors in the Lexington area and housing is much more attractve there than on the eastern side of the state.

The fishing sounds wonderful... Hope you get to do it more often... Like my horses, fishing is kind of therapy for me.

My sister and her husband (who currently live in Modesto, CA) are looking into some opportunities in TN as well. I'm not sure how all this is going to work out. It's like holding pieces to a puzzle and not being able to see where they fit!

I'd appreciate it if you'd keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Default That would be great!

It's kind of odd to me how attracted we/I have been to that area... Especially since we haven't been there. I have no ties there at all, but can't seem to shake it. Maybe I need professional help.

Even though we are looking at other places around the state, the area around Lexington has the most appeal to me.

Since my daughter and her family are moving to Elizabethton, we will, (Lord willing) be stopping in Lexington for a few days to check it out. This probably won't be until the later part of Aug. And in doing so, maybe well be able to satisfy the itch!

Thanks...

Can I make a suggestion? If you are manufacturing mgmt.. Maybe you could get a hold of a good recruiter and they can tell you where and if there is employment for you in the two sides of the state you are looking at and go from there? My hubby is a plant engineer for a plant in Elizabethton, he loves the people he is working with. We live further north than that but he has only about a 30 minute drive to work so it works out well. There are a lot of manufacturing plants in the Tri-Cites and still lots of areas for fishing and horse back riding.
Again, just my suggestion and if you want a referral for a recruiter just PM me.

For equistrian (sp?) interests Shelbyville might be worth looking at.
