Thumbs up Favorite Tennessee Restaurants

As a spin off of the Tennessee foods thread I thought it might be fun to list our favorite restaurants. Even those of us that live here (like me) would love a good recommendation for when I take a trip out of my own neck of the woods.

I'll start......

Upper East Tennessee - Pal's Drive Thru - hot doggie, frenchie fries, shakes, chipped ham sandwiches, mmmmmmm!

Knoxville - Barbecue - Famous Dave's at Cedar Bluff exit

I've only been to restaurants in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, three years ago.
The one place to avoid at all costs is Duff's Smogasbord...their food have to be leftover from the Civil War!! Horrible!!!
My favorite for breakfast is the Pancake Pantry, hands down. We had great meals at Bennett's BBQ in Gatlinburg. Their breakfast bar is very good also.
Probably my overall favorite has to be The Old Mill in Pigeon Forge. Love their corn chowder.

Tri-Cities - OMG Pals is the best. Pals Sudden Service is the official name. I always have to have a Pals Burger & a Tea when I go to the Tri-Cities. Yum...they also have Sauceburgers & frenchie fries, but those have never been my favorites.

Chattanooga - Sticky Fingers BBQ rocks

Famous Dave's, huh? Okay. I will try that.

Everyone says Buddy's and I think it is vile!

I have had a tough time finding decent food in Knoxville. The only ones that I like, so far, is Litton's and Puelo's Grille.

doh! you mentioned the two best places we found in Knoxville. Puelo's is amazing!!! Try the pork chops, and you won't be disappointed

another place downtown that was good was the Tomato Head (think thats the name)

Oh yes, Puleo's and Litton's, yum!!! I do love Litton's but in the last year I feel that they have really jacked their prices up. Maybe it's just me. I know I am a dork but I still love to go to Regas. The Tomato Head just opened a Maryville location; it is a hit!

Thanks for the tip on Chatty veragemini, I am planning a day trip down there. I will hit up the Sticky Fingers BBQ.

I don't care for the Puleo's in Murfreesboro.

Demos' is a wonderful steak house and it is inexpensive! It is only in Nashville, Lebanon, Hendersonville and M'Boro.

There's a mom n pop place in Lebanon I like when I am out that way. It has great country cooking and the pies I have had from there are to die for. I believe the name of it is Sunset Diner. It is on the main drag there if you exit the interstate and go away from it, it is on your left maybe 1.5 miles down. Whenever we drive to Nashville to take Southwest on a penny pinching vacation we try to time it to stop there. Yum!

Last edited by Beretta; 06-11-2007 at 09:17 PM.. Reason: Had the restaurant name wrong, it's Sunset not Sunrise! LOL

I personaly like Garfields in the kingsport mall. Good burgers and stuff, and you get to draw on the table. They put white paper down as a table cloth and give you crayons. My daughter has bad luck with fried stuff like potato skins and such they had a funny taste. I think the fryer oil needed to be changed, they took it back and gave us new ones but they still tasted funny. I'll go back. My cousin does a karyoke show there on Tue. 9:00 he is a blast.

I'll add a few for Nashville:

Monell's
Rotier's (near Centennial Park)
Sperry's (Belle Meade)
Valentino's (upscale, sometimes you see county music stars)
Pancake Pantry (another place the music people like)
Dalt's (White Bridge Road, casual)
And, for something a little different, the cafe at either the Frist Center or the one in David-Kidd bookstore.
There's a Middle East place over on 21st that's good . . . but I can't think of the name offhand.
