El Paso has some REALLY good food. In my opinion, one of the best points of the city. You might check the EP forum and see what is near the interstate.

We are driving with our eleven month old, and thus we will have to stop fairly often.
I was reading your thread and was wondering, my husband and i along with our 3yr old will be moving to tx from california in a penske truck, how was the seating in the penske truck meaning did your babies car seat fit ok in the truck. thanks

In the debate over which way to go, no one has mentioned that the speed limit on parts of Interstate 10 (and Interstate 20) from El Paso has been raised to 80 MPH until you get close to San Antonio (Interstate 10) or Pecos (Interstate 20) where it drops back to 70 MPH.

Going 80+ in a Penske truck loaded down sounds like a hazard to me.

Also out there they have 85-86 octane gasoline. That + cruise controlling 85 mph will shave off about 5-7 miles per gallon. Our little SUV/wagon gets 32-33 mpg highway, got 26 out there.

CaliforniatoTexas is on a distinguished road
We have driven many times from Fontana (San Bernardino County) to El Paso and all the way to Laredo, Tx. We have crossed into Juarez, Mx. as well. I do not reccomend going into Juarez, if you live in San Diego then u have probaly been to TJ, and Juarez is kind of scary, alot of trafffic, worse than Tj, infact I loved going to TJ all the time and I was actually a little scared of Juarez. I would reccomend staying in El Paso, they have alot of nice hotels and alot of nice restaurants, most of the ones you will find here in California, I know they were building a casino last time we were there. By the way look for the GIANT Roadrunner on I10 going into NM. My kids got a kick ou of it, I told them if they didn't be quiet it was going to come after us, LOL!! Also the "THING" signs will keep you in Suspense!! Have fun, good luck and stay safe, especially at rest areas!!
