a friend of mine takes opening day of dove season so seriously that he did not go to the hospital to see his wife give birth to their son, which happened to coincide on that day!
a great song about hunting in Texas is "West Texas Holiday" by Pat Green or "Hunting here in Texas" by Ben Atkins
we take hunting seriously here, like no other state

All so true. I used to think all of the above applied to EVERYBODY till some "well-meaning?" aquaintances set me straight. Such as the Coke thing, ,,,goes back to when I was a little kid and the wole family would be in the car and Daddy would ask if we wanted to stop and get a Coke. When we got to the store, whoever was going in after them would ask, ok, what do you want? Everyone put their order (so to speak) in,,,Coke, Dr. Pepper, RC, etc. AND that's the way it's done HERE IN TEXAS!

I've lived here all of my life (well, not yet, I haven't), and I will never understand why Mexia is pronounced the way it is. It doesn't make sense in English or Spanish.
I had never thought about the disnctinction in pronunciation between Lancaster(town) and Lancaster (street), but it's a fact, there is a difference!

Ha! The coke thing is funny.. My wife is from chicago and thought it was the weirdest thing to ask if she wanted a coke & then ask what kind. Course up there, they call coke -- pop. Which I find equally weird.
