Default Terrified to move to Bowie Texas. Help!

Hello all
I'm posting this is hope of finding someone who can tell me about Bowie. I know it's a small town-that doesn't bother me. What I'm desperate to find out is:
What is the landscape like? Desert? Grasslands? Woods?
What are the people like?
Is the town scenic and pretty or run down and full of chains and box stores?

Any information you can pass along would be helpful. I currently live in Nashville and hate it. Not exactly excited about moving further south but my husband's job is bringing us there. I grew up in Vermont and am having a tough time adjusting to the south. Thanks!

If you do a google search for Bowie, Texas and click on images and/or view the city's web site, it will give you an idea. I've never been to Bowie, so I can't really tell you anything about the place firsthand. I'm sure someone will come along and give you a description.

Compared to Nashville, Bowie is very small with a population just over 5,500. My guess is as is much of North Texas that the landscape would be described as flat and grasslands.

When one isn't from the south (I'm not either), it can be difficult to get used to it. I wish you the best.

Bowie is VERY small. There are a few little antique shops along the main street, and a Wal-Mart. For everything else, you'll need to drive to Decatur. There are NO chain stores or restaurants.

The landscape there is NOT flat. The land is rolling plains and is actually pretty. To the south of town, there are quite a few trees, too. The LBJ Grasslands State Park is just outside of town, so look it up to see the terrain.

I apologize. I assumed it was flat like so much of Texas and from the few photos I saw of the area on the web. That's what I get for assuming.

I think it's a nice little town. I've never lived there, but the countryside is beautiful, and it isn't terribly far from DFW.

And it is just down the highway from Wichita Falls. How great is that.

May I recommend that you download Google Earth to your computer then google the town. It has really good photos!

It's in the middle of nowhere. Sounds like my kind of place because I love small towns. And it's big enough to have enough amenities.

Go to google maps and then streetview to check it out.

It's got a Wal-Mart. You'll be fine. Oh, and get a weather radio FAST.

It's a small town ( a little over 5500). It will probably be a big change from what you're used to. If you think you might like that "small town feel", I'm sure you'll like it there.

Texas is a very "gun friendly" state, too. If your husband likes that kind of thing, he'll feel right at home.

BTW, you'll only be an hour outside Dallas. An hour drive, and you have access to one of the greatest cities in the U.S. There's a lot to do and see here.

Good luck!
