Re-locating to Lubbock from Indiana (Amarillo, San Angelo: lease, sex offenders, crime)

I guess beauty must be in the eye of the beholder because I've never thought Levelland was a "pretty" town. I've known some very nice people form Levelland and SP College has a very good reputation BUT it is definitely not a town I'd choose to live in.
Also, where exactly is the red light district you refer to?

There does'nt seem to be much in Levelland. Might be a little to far for me to drive every day. From what I could tell on the internet the town seems old.

One of the things I noticed about Lubbock is that although there are hundreds of miles of fences here I have seen NO grafatti. VERY different from the east or west coasts. Yes it seems to be a clean town and I have never heard of a "red light district" here.

Jim I doubted that there was a red light district. Maybe some wild bars with the college in town. My wife and I are going to try and find a rental in your part of town. I will let you know how it goes.

I would have to agree about NOT living in Levelland. I call it TrashTown, sorry to those who live there and like it! Seems dirty, lots of poverty, unsafe, etc. But so are several of the smaller towns around Lubbock, so probably should not just pick on that one. It sure needs a face lift though.

Are there any small town's around Lubbock that are nice?

I haven't seen any I would live in....but the further up you go toward and past Amarillo, there are several cute, clean ones. Maybe someone else knows of some around Lubbock? This is a very flat, dusty, windy area, and for whatever reason, I just do not see much pride in keeping up the small towns around here, so UNLIKE other parts of Texas.

So far the only rub in my plans is the more I research the more I feel like Lubbock is very isolated. In NY I can move or commute 1/2hr-1hr on way or another and have a new set of opportunities. When making the plans for the Lubbock trip I didn't not consider that it might not be the same way there. So as I did more research I extended my plans and have added a pit stop In Midland/Odessa area. When looking into schools and hospitals in the MO area it looks drastically less opportunistic. I have expanded my search to San Angelo and other places but the more I search the further my destinations seem to be. I have only 11 days in Texas and I have to use the time efficiently. I can't spend all the time traveling around Texas, while I need to be visiting schools, hospitals and such. It would be great if I fell in love with Lubbock and my plans came to fruition. I am not banking on it though and that is why I planed this trip and all its research. Now I feel like I need to take a step back and reassess the options and surrounding area.

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions, ideas would be greatly appreciated. I leave Saturday morning.
