Re-locating to Lubbock from Indiana
I am looking to relocate from Indiana to Lubbock for my new job with my wife and two kids. I was wondering where the best place to live is? My new job is located on the south east side. I will be looking to rent at first to make sure all goes well, then hopefully to buy. It seems a lot of rentals are geared toward Tech and it's student's. Any help would be great.

Most rentals are.Look in the southwest and west. That is where the new resi growth is.TT runs a shuttle to most apts geared towards TT students,so getting something off this route will help.Don't worry about a commute.Anywhere in Lubbock is easily accessible off of Loop 289,and there are no bad commutes.

Is the southwest part of town where the better schools are at? How much rent can you expect to pay for a house to rent?

The Southwest side is where most of the newer and more upscale neighborhoods are. Good schools. Lots of good choices. Lubbock is a great town with a lot more amenities than other towns its size. Are you a Bobby Knight fan by chance?

Yes I am a big Bobby Knight fan. Im an IU fan and I hated it when they fired him. I am also a big fan of high school football and Texas is a big time state for that. Do you think there will be many rentals on the south side? Are there any towns close by that offer great living?

TT has already designated Knight's son as his successor, mostly to keep BK on good behavior, since the succession is dependent on BK's behavior,or so I've heard.TT football is as exciting as it gets under Leach.

Most are going to be flat, unattractive farming towns.Lubbock proper is prettier than the surrounding countryside, but doesn't have many of the big city problems that would make one want to commute to outside the city to live.If I were moving there I would live inside Lubbock.

Do not feel that you only have look in SW Lubbock. Southwest Lubbock is nice, but it is also more costly. There are other nice neighborhoods in other parts of town, too, that are often overlooked. For example, there are some nice new developments that are more southeast (south of Loop 289 to the west of the Tahoka Highway). There are several options that would be closer to your job, and there is rental property there. They are putting in a new elementary school in that area.
Wolfforth, like Lubbock, has some good and bad areas. They have some nice new developments going in there, too. The Frenship school district, Wolfforth's school district, is excellent.
