Its not all about population. Some people like geographic location as well.
Because that's a huge advantage for Waco; it being centrally located between two of Texas major cities. Also, Marshall is more than 200 miles from Houston. Waco is 180 miles away from Houston.

I did BMET at TSTC in Waco during my 12 grade year.

I was talking about Tyler being 200 miles away from Houston. It takes me exactly 3 hours to get down there from my house. I've made it in about 2.5 hours before, but I was doing 80-100 mph the whole way down.

Both Dallas & Shreveport are exactly 90 miles or 1.5 hours from Tyler.
