I grew up there, and my parents still live there.
Get ready for some culture shock. Ozona is West Texas semi-arid rough canyon country/desert with mesquites, cactus, liveoaks.....it's very green right now and looks great because of all the rain we've had. In a good year, it averages about 18 inches a year, and several of the last years have been in severe drought.
It is basically ranching country and oil/gas. The countywide population is around 4,000...and about 70% Hispanic. People go to San Angelo (80 miles) for shopping, major medical care, entertainment, etc.
It has a small medical clinic (and they're dang lucky to have what they do), 2 medium sized grocery stores, a Dollar General....you can get the basics, but that's about it.
The school system appears to be very good....they have had good ratings over the past few years. I've been gone for 35 years, so I'm not really up on that.
People are friendly and helpful, but I have been told by outsiders that it's very clannish/clique-ish. Since my family has been there almost since the county was organized, I don't see that.
Housing is tight, and it may not be that easy to find a place to live.
You have hunting, fishing (Lake Amistad) and other recreational opportunities not far away. It's about 125 miles from the Mexican border at Del Rio. The Pecos River forms the entire western boundary of Crockett Co.
There is a small newspaper that is published weekly.
You can find out more information at ozona dot com.
