Hey Cougar, are you driving straight through? It used to take me 13-14 hours from Houston. It was a LOOOONG drive, but ahhh...I sure loved waking up and knowing I was already to the Atlantic and would head to the beach with a cup of coffee before heading down to Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, and the Keys. I used to make the trip quite a bit.

Be sure and use GasBuddy.com to find where the cheapest gas is along the way!

It's fine. There is/was construction on I-10 from Beaumont going into LA. I'm not sure if it's done as of yet but that really is the only snag. Make sure you have gas as you leave La Fayette as there's about 40 miles through the Atchafalaya Swamp that you won't be able to exit. Once you get to FL, I-10 becomes a nice road, especially just E of Pensacola to Tallahassee on on into Jacksonville, where it becomes more traveled.

Baton Rouge is pretty to drive through, but the highway gets busy on the E side of town during rush hour. Take the I-12 loop around New Orleans. You'll go through a tunnel in Biloxi and Mobile, pretty cool. It's a great drive I think that shouldn't give you any trouble depending on traffic/weather conditions.

I am heading to St. Augustine. I guess it's an extra hour of road!
Thanks for the info.

No tolls that I recall, and I don't think there's any from Jax to St Augustine if you take 95.

I know this topic dated way back...we are planning a road trip from Houston to Ft Lauderdale and planning on stopping in New Orleans on the way there and Savanah & Pensacola/Oanama City on the way back.

We have little ones and also family who would like to experience local places. Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.
