[LEFT]The number of Hispanic-owned businesses in Texas between 2002 and 2007 increased by 40 percent to 447,486, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Hispanic-owned businesses made up 23.3 percent of all Houston businesses in 2007, according to the data.
Nationwide, there were 51,207 Hispanic-owned businesses on the record in 2007, accounting for $10.5 billion in sales, according to new data from the “Survey of Business Owners: Hispanic-Owned Businesses: 2007.” The report provides detailed information every five years for Hispanic-owned businesses, such as the number of firms, sales and receipts, number of paid employees and annual payroll.
El Paso had the highest ratio of Hispanic-owned businesses — 59.8 percent — to all businesses among U.S. cities with a 2007 population of more than 500,000 people. That was followed by San Antonio at 39.4 percent and Los Angeles with 21 percent.
