Default Midland Lee VS. Abilene High

I went to the game tonight. My alma mater,Lee played horrible and got beat 77-21.We left at the start of the 3rd quarter and watched it on TV.It was extremely dissapointing, lol but it was good to see a very good team play.

Abilene High has been rated among the best five high school teams in the nation.

I was born in Abilene and attended high school at AHS for one year. While I'm sure the community is beside itself with the success of the football team (this is Texas, after all), I'm curious as to the academic successes of the school? Are they sending more students to university? Is the school's academic reputation enjoying a similar meteoric success?

I just read that this summer Abilene ISD was rated as "unacceptable" by the state. However, this might have been changed. I don't know how good of a school Abilene High is academically.

I had to look this up, and apparently it's true. But the unacceptable rating makes no sense considering NONE of the schools in the entire district were rated unacceptable. In fact, most of the schools were either recognized or exemplary. Abilene's schools have a fairly good reputation.

Anyway, I know how you feel. My Lubbock High Westerners have had some very dismal scores this year. (When we played Abilene Cooper, it was 0-45 at halftime, and they called the game for lightning. We lost to Mesquite North something like 0-72.) The football team hasn't made post-season for 35 years. The games are still fun. Our academic teams completely dominate though.

Okay, I don't know why AISD is unacceptable either. I remember last year we lost against yall in Lubbock. Ya, the game was still fun. Thanks for the kind words.

Back when I went to Abilene High, any grade less than a 75 was NOT a passing grade. Our report card grades were actual numbers, none of that alphabet stuff. I learned more in that school just being a dumb ass than a large number of kids learn today, even by trying. Football wasn't so great but we had history.

I think the reason why AISD is unacceptable is because they could not get at least 75% of the minority students to graduate.

The uncacceptable rating was caused by the student body failing to make adequate yearly progress in all areas. There were 5 hispanic students in jail who failed to graduated. This lowered the graduation rate for Hispanics to unacceptable. This was at the alternative high school. Under current law, unacceptable for one subgroup at one school will make the entire district unacceptable. Academics were excellent at every school in the district.
