Default Texans VS Californians

Just browsing the Austin forum I saw a thread on Californians moving to Texas and felt compelled to post this.Checkout my road trip thread for some photos.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/other...road-trip.html

Bu I want to say I spent time in Texas lately and love it.I talked to a few Texans which are nice people and a few of them told me they are not too happy with Californians moving there, specially Austin. It has driven up values to where some Austin natives can't afford it anymore.

Further more politically wise I would like to remind Californians that moving to Texas they should consider themselves Texans and not Californians in Texas.I think much of the political mumbo jumbo that Californians supported in California could turn Texas into another California. The same could be said about my home state Florida.

So respectfully agreeing with some Texans I spoke with, that government regulation, taxes and firearm legislation is not wanted by most Texans.Or it will turn into another California.

Me>>I just wanted to say, that although I can somewhat relate to your post above, as natives of another state who relocate to Texas, it is ludicrous to expect those people to just give up their roots.

I can also say as a California native, most states have a pretty jaded view of us. Just like Texas, California is a huge state full of "many" different types of people. In fact, until recently, most Californians moved there from another state.

We may move to Texas, but there is no reason to give up, or be ashamed of our heritage. That's just nuts and small minded, IMO.

Look I'm just saying.....well ya bluntly Californian's do have a bad rep,I know there are different people with different views there, alot of nice people, but overall Cali is known for voting in government regulation after regulation, tax after tax,and so on which has now made many wanting to escape there for other states like Texas.

Could the same people who voted in such a way as to make Cali a undesirable place to live do the same in a new state?Or it could be those who from Cali prefere other laws of more free states want to move there to be with people more their mindset...maybe. I'm just saying what a few Texans told me....

A while ago I read a article about natives in Nevada being unhappy with Cali transplants because they started voting no smoking in bars regulations and such.

glad for the photo comments btw,it was a eye opening experience to travel like that.

cheers

I'm a Californian and have been in Texas for 8 years.
Lionking is right, with the influx of Californians moving to Austin the laws are slowly changing to mirror California, as well as property values.

I think it sucks.

Sucks, indeed! Each state is charming in its own right and it's a shame when the character or flavor of a state changes, much to the consternation of its citizens. Not that CA hasn't changed either, especially SoCal. Darn shame for both states.

San Antonio, Austin and the Hill country looks a lot like SOCAL except there is no beaches. There is a 30 block area neighborhood in SA around the Fred Rd and Woodlawn area looks a lot like W LA neighborhoods
