I think it is still open. I've only been there once, when I was a kid, and just remember someone stumbling in with a heat stroke.
Mejor was bought back by the original owner and he changed the name, I guess because most people just call it 'Mejor.' But I dunno why they'd throw the el in front of it. I think that means "the better" which makes no sense. I guess it's 'better than nothin' though!
My favorite sit down Mexican joint in town is Franco's. Aw yeah. Corner Stop is the place for burritos, and Rosa's has the best fajitas, tortillas, and sopapillas.
San Angelo has changed A LOT in 1998 as far as retail development goes. Houston Harte freeway was finally finished, and a lot of development there where there was empty space in front of the Bluffs on the right and Sherwood Way on the left. And Sherwood between the SW blvd/Sherwood intersection, and Wal Mart Supercenter is completely covered now. Also several more restaurants and hotels on Knickerbocker, and the minor league baseball field where they had the ASU bonfire.

Goodness. A LOT has changed! I need to get back out there some day. I miss it, except for the tap water.

You know, I never liked water or drank it until my 20's(now it's all I drink). Because water to me was what came out of our taps here. Then I started to try and like bottled water. I didn't like it for awhile because it had no flavor. LOL...our tap water DOES have flavor, but I wish it didn't.
You should try and visit sometime..I'm trying to picture what it was like 10 years ago. You left just as the retail boom was starting. And oddly even though the population is growing very slowly by the so-called estimates, there is a housing boom as well. You'd think the place was growing a lot more than they say it is.

I moved away about the time that the Lowes was built on the Mertzon Highway. I think it was the only business out there at that time, other than Twin Mountains.
I was actually born in the old Shannon in 1972, and I still have family living in SA. I grew up in Junction, so we visited frequently. I remember the awful taste of the tap water after brushing my teeth at my aunt and uncles house on High Meadow Dr. They still live there. I vaguely remember when Sunset Mall was built, but I was just a small child then.
Thanks for the stroll down Memory Lane.

I miss all the sunshine! I'm in KY and the winters here are so dreary compared to the ones in TX. I can handle the cold.... it's the months of no sunshine that kill me. This was my last winter here... we are moving to east TX in 2 months... and I CAN'T WAIT! I am ready for some good BBQ, steaks, and mexican food!

I live in "Texas" and yet I miss Texas daily. Everyday is a new lament over what we have become.
