Ok fellow Texans, here is my Poll of the Week. It was prompted by AlGreens mention of milk-boiled grits!

Visualize it. You are sitting down in one of your favorite out of the way cafes in Texas. The waitress brings you the menu. What would you order if you had your 'druthers. Or? Make yourself if you had the time and inclination to put it all together perfectly?

Here is the Menu. Check all that apply.

And as the old Texas saying goes, be real...don't let your eyes overload your stomach!

Steak by preference, not chicken fried generally, though I've done it a time or two. By preference, sirloin or ribeye. Ham or sausage if steak is not available.

Scrambled eggs.

Toast.

In other words, high on the protein, to last me while out working on the ranch (or showing properties to clients).

Most restaurants don't make biscuits, Southern style or otherwise, to my standards. If the particular restaurant is famous for its biscuits, I might give them a try. Otherwise, toast, Texas or otherwise, is my breakfast bread of choice.

And I forgot to click picante sauce before it hitting submit, but I meant to add that in there.

In addition to several of the choices that I picked (over easy fried eggs, scrambled eggs, hash browns, picante sauce, buttermilk biscuits, steak, sliced tomatoes) my druthers would also include huevos rancheros Texas-style, migas, pinto or black beans (whole or refried), burritos and homemade bran muffins with cottage cheese!

Either homemade pork / venison sausage stuffed into 10 inch links or if you can't make your own from Kreuz BBQ in Lockhart. Cooked in an iron skillet with about 1/2 inch of water.

Skillet Gravy, Eggs - Scrambled or Fried, Homemade Flaky Biscuits, Homemade Apricot or Pear Preserves.

A full cup of "Cowboy" coffee cooked on the stove top in those Blue Iron kettles with the coffee grounds still in the kettle. Maybe a big glass of cold milk to wash it down.

If you have scrambled eggs, Heinze ketchup is mandatory. Never understood anybody who didn't like ketchup on their scrambled eggs.

Did I mention plenty of skillet gravy ?

Then you put on your cold weather gear and head out to the deer lease.

My sister always liked that when we were kids, but I'm not sure that she still puts ketchup on her eggs.

I've never been able to stand ketchup on eggs!! Give me some tabasco, Cholula (any flavor of each) or Red Devil...or homemade salsa!

Funny, I can put Picante on everything but Scrambled eggs or Egg Burritos. I reserve my ketchup for breakfast.

If not steak, my real breakfast of choice is not on here - chorizo, potato and egg tacos!

Maybe I should have made it a seperate choice, but I plead the excuse that the combinations would make it...

That is, a ground sausage and gravy mix..and with the biscuits!

Never, ever eggs...yuck!

This makes it difficult for breakfaast since most places do not have egg free meat platters, and I'm not spending $25 on a la carte items.

I hope, hope, hope you don't mean this would make a breakfast taco! Not even close!

(Doesn't mean it wouldn't be tasty, just means you clearly don't have a clue what a breakfast taco is if that's what you meant and you weren't pulling our legs.)
