Good data, Captain. The winter temps aren't all that different from those of Fort Worth where I am, but much drier. The summers are MUCH better in Alpine than here, both cooler and less humid!

Yeah, but it's not really hot until the overnight lows are 85 and higher. for days on end.

That's my least favorite feature of the climate here in DFW: the hot August nights when the temp stays above 80 F, and the humidity is so high that one breaks into a sweat walking outdoors at four a.m.

After having to drive through Dallas back to Fort Worth tonight, 'in the middle of nowhere' sounds great to me.

I think Ruidoso, NM is a lovely place, but to too many people know about it. "[A]bout 6 hours"? That's not exactly just around the corner. I might also remark that this is the Texas thread. I like NM, don't get me wrong, and may eventually move there.

Your comment shows how little you know about the area. It has some of the best scenery in Texas, as well as an active, thriving artists and music community, with numerous festivals every year, in addition to being home of Sol Ross University.

Also your response is off topic. The OP didn't ask for information on the coolest large metropolitan area, he asked:

I'm just curious what's the town/city in Texas that has the coolest summers?? Are there any areas where it averages below 85 degrees in July or August???

The drive out there is terrible, very unappealing in scenery. I felt like I was on the moon or worse. I really did not like the area at all although the campus of Sul Ross was nice. Driving from Alpine to Fort Davis to Marfa was pretty ugly to me although I could find some attractiveness in the Fort Davis area. I could never live outthere. Even with all the humidity in Central Texas, which I hate, it is prettier here than Brewster County.

P.S. The heat here yesterday was 87 degrees and bone dry. It was still quite warm although much better than humid. Hot is hot, at least I'm beginning to think it is.

The OP also began by saying they had NO plans to move to Texas and were asking only out of curiosity - whatever that implies.

Although I probably won't move to Texas (I'm currently in California and am more interested in moving to a far north county of this state)
So any remarks made after that are just as rhetorical as the OP's opening comments.
