DO NOT move to the area if you have children..DO NOT do it!!! You are talking about living in the main area of the US where the drugs are transported from. I lived there for 2 years and that was it! The drugs and corruption are like a PlAGUE in that area.

Yes, it's better to put your children where the drugs are transported to.

Are you kidding me RGV. The drugs start in Mexico and TONS of them end up in south Texas. I have lived all over and the most drug infested places I have seen are South Texas, Southern California and Southern Florida. Drugs in Southern Texas are so cheap it's insane.

too funny, rgv! i personally don't care where the drugs come from. they're everywhere. i choose not to associate myself with people in the drug trade. i've lived on the border nearly 20 years and have never had any dealings or issues with crime. why some people get so fired up about it, i just don't know. it's hilarious to read all these rantings--and do you notice they are all from the same 4 posters?? i guess they're so bored in their perfect existences the only thing they can do is insult and bash the people who live in areas different from theirs.

For the love of God....
Alrighty....I stumbled upon this site by accident and am not sure I want to continue reading....there is a 99% chance that I will be relocating to yall's area within the next 6 months or so. I'm origionally from WV, went into the military at 17, traveled all over the US and Europe, (amazingly enough, crime/racism/ignorance/poverty ect. are EVERYWHERE) adapted/overcame. Currently living in Colorado Springs, moving R/T fiance' changing jobs, no kids. WTF? What little bit of research I've done on this area is all pretty positive. Yes, there's drugs....don't do drugs and get a security system, just like in every other town....but the sex offender registry is less than the national average....yes, it's hot....some call it "tropical", that's why you have air conditioning and, if you're lucky, a pool. You're an hour from S Padre Island, I've been there, it's beautiful. A couple of hours from San Antonio, spent a year and a half there...awsome town. Two huge medical Centers in the area if I'm looking at it right. Average age is in the thirties (same as my fiance' and I), and last but not least by any stretch, oozing of culture. I want to learn to scuba dive in the Gulf of Mexico. I'm excited. Now, what's all this crap about stealing blonde folks. I pay alotta money for three different shades of blonde to be blended onto my head as to look "natural"...is that really an issue? How liberal are the concealed carry permits? What is considered to be the "BEST" part of town to live in. Not good, or OK, the most sought after properties, best schools, cleanest grocery stores and so on. North 34th, how's that area? Thanks for any info.

Owienurse, if you have an open mind and an inkling of social skills and common sense, you will do great anywhere you go. How old are your children? There are good public and private schools in the area for you to choose from. North McAllen has a lot going on as far as growth--Mission and Edinburg are coming into their own, also. I can only speak for the upper Valley--good luck!

I would definitely check out North McAllen--that area is really growing. The Plantation is in South Mission and is also nice. Weslaco, Harlingen, and Brownsville have hospitals there, also, but I don't know much about the areas. You know, every area has nice parts, so do your research (or better yet, come on down for a visit) and you'll get a feel for where you want to be.
