I am curently doing a CNA program & on the day of orientation my propreitor said the pay is $8 to 12 dollars,my instructor told me yesterday about a CNA working in an Alzeihmer's home health getting paid $18,obviously because its demanding, the folks there are like crazy. Another care provider that came to our school to recruit student for home health care said the pay was $8. The issue is your pay will depend on the facility your woking at and a girl that came from a home health for a CPR training said having a CPR cerificate increases ur pay. I hope this information helps you. Good luck

I'm HR director for a rehab hospital in the mid-cities (between Dallas and Fort Worth) and our CNAs are usually paid about $12 hourly. I will tell you that the CNA market here is FLOODED! I usually have 20 applicants for each job opening. If you have more experience as a CNA that will give you an advantage over the new ones.

Be sure and start your reciprocity certification ASAP. Texas does not allow you to work on an out-of-state certification like nurses do. Here's the form you need to send in: Form 5505-NAR - Request for Entry on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry Through Reciprocity

The large cities may have a over-abundance of CNA's but the small towns don't....the nursing homes and home health care companies have a hard time finding quality, dependable CNA's in the smaller towns. And because there are so many older people in the rural areas, there are a number of nursing homes. The pay is about the same as in the city (($10 approx.) but the cost of living is much less.

Yes, you MUST be certified to work as any type of caregiver in a Texas nursing home. There are places in the community that teach the certification class for about $500.

I think it's even gone up from $500. I'm currently going back to school for a career change to a nursing degree, and I've taken a CNA class in the past year. My course was $800 for the three week course. It was the best deal I could find locally after scouring the internet.

I've also found that hospitals will pay around $12/hr + shift deferential for CNA's. Nursing homes will likely only get you between $8-$10. Nursing homes seem to always be hiring. Hospitals are packed with applicants and it might be advantageous to know somebody to get you in the door, or maybe even start with a lower job like transporting and try to work your way up.
